Your opinions on anonymous

Personally i'm glad they're around. I am cautios though as the psn thing affected innocent people and seeing as there is no leader I do think what if one day a few members who maybe aren't in it for the right reasons decide to create chaos or if the movement does something that could affect everyone.

however I agree with a lot of their points plus i think it was between 30-40 child pornography sites have been taken down by anonymous since it's founding, if these sites aren't being taken down by various governments then i'm glad Anonymous are doing what they are doing.

What's your opinion on the hacktivist group Anonymous?

I'm a member 5
Totally with them and all they stand for 8
I agree with them but not everything they do 9
I have no feelings 8
I don't agree with them but they have the odd good point 3
I hate them and all they stand for (come at me bro) 6
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Because Anonymous isn't an organisation, anybody can purport to be acting 'on behalf of Anonymous'. As such, it's dangerous to put much faith in what is essentially a floating brand with ideological sentiments, a bandwagon as likely to be jumped upon by attention seeking idiots as it is intelligent and talented individuals.

So I prefer to avoid expressing blanket support for Anonymous.

Hacktivism as a whole is very interesting, and I would say an important part of maintaining at least some civil control over the internet. Vigilante acts by white hats are generally a force for good.

  • I like what they stand for. It is good in general to question the powers that be and not always blindly follow the herd. Its good to know there are people that take a step back and stand up for injustice and government corruption. Like you said the fact that the group is not centralized in any way could be a problem. But within any group there will always be a few bad eggs that make the entire group look bad.

Hm. I never really paid much attention to them. Concerning how I feel about them, I don't really feel anything.

I don't know. I'm suspicious of vigilantes because they're only accountable to themselves, but I'm also suspicious of governments and corporate power. I think some people show an interest in Anonymous because it's edgy and new and appears powerful, rather than because they understand what it does stand for.

I can't pretend I know much about what Anonymous does practically. It's an extremely interesting idea, at least, and I definitely don't think Anonymous a bad thing.

I've often thought they could be doing a lot more good for so many more people, with the power they have.
Were I that talented a hacker, I would be very actively dismantling the systems that cause so much bloodshed and misery in the world. Every terror group, from ISIS to the Taliban, al-Qaeda to Al-Shabaab would quake at the very thought that they had caught my attention. How wonderful it would be to be able to do something that productive as a hacker, instead of creating misery for millions of everyday people, with a malicious worm or virus.
    Well, that's my dream, anyway.
