You haven't seen your roommate for a month...

Let's pretend you live with two other people who are acquaintances. You talk to them occasionally or see them on your way out (it's inevitable right?) etc. but all of a sudden you notice that you haven't seen one of them for an entire month despite the fact that he/she is in the room right across from you. You hear them sometimes (in the bathroom, in the kitchen) but for some reason never see them or run into them anymore. What do you think?

I'd probably call the cops, and tell them that I haven't seen my room mate in a month. I explain to him that we don't talk much, but I do value his friendship. Cops are inspecting the house, trying to see if there are any clues in the house, probably think I'm the suspect. The officer questions me, the usual stuff. It's just procedure. However, I notice that they don't bother questioning my other room mate, Tom, and I ask, "why don't question Tom?" I keep looking at Tom, and the cop just looks at me with confusion. When I turn to face him he answers my question by stating that there is nobody over there. I keep pointing, frantically saying that he's right there. But the cop just looks at me and tells me to calm down, by this point the rest of his cop buddies stop what they're doing and face me.

He then proceeds to ask me if I have a copy of the contract for who is suppose to be living here. I quickly go to a cabinet and pull it out, rummaging through a stack of papers. Finally I find the agreement and run back, giving it to the officer. He looks at it and sees only one signature, mines. "Is this some kind of joke" the officer says in a harsh tone. I grab the paper and look at it again, "there were two other signatures I swear" I plead. The cops all leave and I end up getting a fine for obstructing the law.

I quickly run to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror and try to remember all the times that me and my room mates have had over the year but nothing comes to mind; I can't remember them. I splash water in my face, trying to remember. "They were real, I know it," I keep whispering to myself. No matter how hard I try I can't remember there faces. All I remember is passing chips to an empty space, watching tv by myself; the whole time there was no one there and I was alone. I was talking to myself. I created two room mates as a means to escape the loneliness, cause in the end, I'm tired of being alone.
"I don't want to be alone," I say with tears in my eyes. My face is leaning over the sink as the running water shuts off. "I don't want to be alone anymore."

I leave the bathroom still huffing from crying. I try to fight it, I try to put on a brave face, but in the end I just want somebody to tell me that I'm loved. When I enter the living I room I see both of them, Tom and Jane, watching tv and having a couple of laughs. They ask me to join in. I wipe away the tears and calmly sit in the adjacent chair. In my head, I think: "They may not be real, they may only exist in my head, but they're the only means I have to keep away the loneliness"

Thanks man, I actually have thought of writing before. Even attempted writing a book once, I'll probably finish it someday when school isn't in the way. I appreciate the feedback :D

            • It's just the internet so errors are fine. I mean it's good that I can read what you write without having to work out what the hell I'm seeing lol.

Half the people on here can't seem to form a legible sentence but yet are able to use a computer, this scares me.

I can relate to it to a bit as well. And honestly it would be weird if I didn't call the cops my room mate has been gone for a month, that's pretty shady.

When I read this my first thought was like a scary movie type scenario .

Like I've been wondering where he was because I realized I haven't seen him in a while. I'm relieved to hear him in the kitchen making some food or something. But when I walk in to say hey, nobody's there. And it's silent.

In that case, I would think he's a ghost. :b hahahaha

I would think that they're just shy or want to be alone.

I probably would not even notice. If she's a girl, I will just hope that she hasn't gotten herself impregnated. The sound of babies crying upsets me.

Set a roommate trap. I will make it my personal mission to snare the Sequestered Roomy.

Thats hard to answer i had a roommate who was barely ever home. And when he did come home, it would be either late or early (or when im not around). I think i intimidated him a little bit, then again we both understood the idea about respecting each other's personal spaces (maybe too much).

If you are concerned, i see no harm in asking

Sometimes my neighbor in the apartment next to mine isn't there for days. I like that (them being gone and all), but cant help wondering what they do!

I lived with 4 guys for a year and I saw one of them only about 5 times, maybe less, he was a complete nob jockey.
