Would you stay friends?

I told my best friend that I met a guy, and now he doesn't want to be my friend anymore. I thought he would be happy for me, but instead he said it would be too emotionally damaging to his mental health seeing me date someone else and said we should cut all contact. I'm devastated.

If your best friend (who you also liked) started dating someone who wasn't you, would you call it quits on your friendship?

He's not really your friend though because he's in love with you. It's not the same thing. If he's in love with you then he can't be so close while you fall in love with someone else. It will hurt him too much.

Cutting ties with you is actually the best route for him. He'd just be hurting himself more if he remained friends with you.

I mostly agree except it depends on what the guy thinks of all this. If its a sexual thing for him then he should jettison out. If not than it might be fine if he can use self control with his hormones. More information needed.

It's self preservation. He loves/likes you, and he doesn't want to get hurt.

If I liked a friend and they dated someone else I'd be happy for them as long as they're being treated well in their relationship. To cut all contact is petty and immature.

He likes you. It hurts for him to see you with someone else. Normal.
