I don't know the tectonic plates are always moving. If the tsunami didn't happen some other disaster would.
I would be a quadropolegic for my country. Some close friends died in the tsunami.
I'm not a cruel person, but if I kept my limbs I could probably save more than 20,000 lives (estimated tsunami death toll). With arms and legs I could get a great job and help even more people. If I already had an average life though, I'd lose the legs and amputate the arms to reverse the tsunami.
I wouldn't go 5 days without brushing my teeth, to reverse the Tsunami....., and I'm not being mean either, its just that 5 days without brushing my teeth would be a complete drag...and its just not important enough of an issue to me, that's all...
I'd definitely let the tsunami happen.
Because:
1) I have no family there.
2) The people of Japan are of no concern to me and don't affect my life in any way whatsoever.
3) If I'm a quadraplegic, life would be hell and I'd end up depressed and suicidical (even though I don't have the mobility to act upon it).
4) I'd be depending on someone else for the rest of my life. Defenseless and helpless.
5) I can find other ways to help the world, other than sacrificing myself. I consider myself a good person, but damn, I'm no Jesus. That's just TOO kind.

Too tough, I can't decide. It's not just that all those people would die, it's that all those people would idea AND IT WOULD BE YOUR FAULT! Would that be easier to live with rather than be a quadriplegic? I think it would be equally as rough. Your mental health would be dire. And everyone would hate you. However if you gave all of your limbs, everyone would hail you a hero and you could live with yourself. I think I'd chose that one. but I'm wondering, in this poll... does everyone know about what you sacrificed? Or no? If not... it'd be a harder decision to make.
I don't answer foolish questions. Especially when it is about things that not I or any other person could control.
If you had to choose between one or the other...thanks for any votes or replies.
