Would you rather have a physical disease or a mental disease?

If you had the choice to choose , either or , there is no other choice but to choose , would you rather have a lifelong physical disease like diabetes ..etc ,or a lifelong mental disease like schizophrenia ...etc? . (in both cases you take effective medications to stabalize the disease ,and you are better with medication , like your symptoms become little or more stable. )

I would much rather have physical...

I had mental disorders, a lot of people in my family do. I can honestly say I would much rather be physically sick. You don't know the frustration of your mind "not working right". Some make it hard to think, make you either over-emotional or emotionless. You get easily confused, or lost, you forget all the important things. So many problems...sometimes it feels like your brain may very well stop working.

I would much rather have it as physical...

It's funny but they sort of lead to one another...this whole mind body split is not real..we are one

  • Physical, I was labeled as a Shizophrenic not so long ago, and now the biased, gorvernment owned bullshit employers won't employ me, so I make money off of self-employment. Being labeled like me ruins your life, anyone who picks mental illness is a fool.

I have several mental illnesses and I'm lovin' it. It's great as far as I'm concerned. I'd hate to have a physical disease that required medication just to survive. At least with a mental illness, you can still live without meds if you HAD to, like if there were a major disruption of our way of life or something.

Being mentally ill is awful because there's this constant self-doubt that I might just be making it up and I might just be a weak, lazy, terrible person. It doesn't help that I'm not even sure I've been given the right diagnosis but I mentally can't bring myself to speak about my problems to people so I can't get the help I need. I've been to three different counselors and only one of them took me seriously, but even then she could do very little to help because I struggle so much to speak. If I was physically ill I'd never doubt myself or be doubted by others. I wouldn't have Work and Income constantly breathing down my neck wanting medical certificates and interviews to make sure I haven't magically become capable of functioning in society.

I have some sort of emotional/personality disorder, that everyone refuses to believe my concerns and diagnose me!

I'm also awaiting work on a blood test for a genetic condition....

I don't really mind my mental illnesses, I quite like them like friends, but the've been disrupting my life as the years past.... I prefer having mental illnesses:)

a physical disease could be cancer and that would be horrible to have. I already have a few mental illnesses and I'd rather have them than cancer.

I'm very anxious in public places and I have Scoliosis...so I think I'd rather have my brain than body...but I don't believe there's a right answer to this question.

Hard to say. I'm an athlete so I would like my physical body to be in good shape.. but I have OCD and an eating disorder, anxiety etc. and its very hard to deal with. Sometimes its like my brain just doesnt register things.

I have a lifelong mental illness from my experiences as a soldier in Iraq. I get a full disability pension for it the rest of my life, which means I never have to work again. But, do not think you know what my answer is. A mental disease is a living hell, or at least it is for many people. So I would rather have a lifelong physical disease.

There are limits however. Like if I had to choose between being a quadripaleegic and depressed, I would choose depressed, because that kind of physical disease will probably make me depressed anyway. But between something like diabetes and severe depression, I would choose diabetes.

I have been diagnosed with several mental illnesses, and being a hypochondriac, I am very happy that it's my mind that's on the fritz and not my body.
