People that want to be different are people that are normal due to it being normal to want to be adnormal.
Who wants to be square and normal? Life must be so boring for those who are.
Abnormal sometimes.
I had this sticker on the back window of my pickup for years (until I sold the pickup.)
<i>"You laugh at me because I am different; I laugh at you because you are the same."</i>
That having been said there are places and times to be "normal" or at least try to behave normally around people. I try to blend in when the social occasion calls for it.
Yours is a thoughtful question despite some of the criticisms or less than perfectly positive feedback you may be getting.
Being weird is okay, it isn't a crime, it is just different. But knowing the proper time and place for it is everything. Once you know that, you will be golden. Don't fret it too much; it'll come to you.
Normalcy is defined by the limits others impose on you. As well as how you, the individual, perceive these limits and your reactions to them.
Normal is such a bore. Even if you are normal you come to realize how boring the world is. When you see things without all the shine and glimmer you begin to think "Why does it even really matter and why are you here"?
Wow yeah, lets all behave abnormally!! Like, seriously, how cool would it be to be anorexic or severely depressed. Oh god, I'm so unique and special:O:D! Yay ME!!
If people genuinely understood abnormality then they would cling to whatever normalcy they have. Being a bit quirky and listening to a band no-ones heard of isn't abnormal. Would just love everyone who goes out of their way to be abnormal to become abnormal. Hmmm, hows about schizophrenia!! FUN:D!

This is a question I have been asking myself lately. In some ways I like my abnormalities but sometimes (often when they combine) I really hate them. So I don't know.
normality is a concept better fit for ants dude, and we all understand there a bunch of standards out there to follow, where you will follow them or not can be a choice.
Fuck standards
All of my life, I have wanted to be "normal". I'm not so sure it's going to happen though because, even still, when people meet me, they whisper to our mutual friends: "She's nice, but kinda weird." "Weird" - that is the most common word that people have use to describe me over the years and I'm still trying to figure out why. Maybe normal IS weird.
You're correct. Weird is normal. Life wouldn't be interesting if people didn't have a few funny things about them. Abnormality is what makes things fun.
And I wouldn't really call it "weird" I'd say being different. :] I embrace my personality, i used to be self conscious about who I was, but as I got older, I realized, "Who gives a flying fuck about what people think?" because by the end of the day, only you can make yourself happy. Life is too short to be regretful.
Cut the bullshit, weirdos are not a simplistic desire to be unusual, they're also mysterious, cosmic, connected with fate, can't explain themselves or other weirdos. I love being a little weird, but so weird I naturally think I'm weird, alien, and out there.
