  • I'm badly affected by depression anyway, and I'm kinda poor. So having some money for once I think would make me quite happy (I love buying things) while still being depressed :d

    • But actually, if I had a chance to be happy I would rather stay poor.

Happy is happy no matter what and depressed is depressed no matter what. The choice couldn't have been more clear to me; I chose happiness. Mind you, I almost chose death but I wouldn't mind being alive if I was happy; especially since I have idea what death entails.

    wow ;;;;;;;;

The richest persons I've known. Really rich, they all killed themselves.
One lady owner of a big hotel chain hanged herself in one of her hotels suites.
A guy stoned rich with 32 years old in is car down cliffs. Such a nice guy. Always smiling a good for everyone.
    .....
Better have enough to your daily living, a small bank account and at least a very good friend, one of those you can ring at 4 in morning and comes if you feel sad.
    That's the best thing.
Just have enough for a rather comfortable living and provide the people you love with their needs.

I suppose rich and depressed also includes the fact of being unable to solve the depression through professional medicine, therapy, counseling, etc. In that case, I would not like to live a waking nightmare and would inevitably commit suicide over the life-long emotional torture.

Now, if I'm able to repair the issue and become rich and neutral, that's a different story... I can sacrifice absolute joy to invest in the betterment of mankind.

Too philosophical. Did anyone ever consider the possibility of insane, but rich? Now I don't mean insane as in dangerous; but insane as in mentally handicapped, or unstable.

In America, poor means you're very unlikely to live if you come down with a disease that can only be cured if caught in it's infancy. Fortunately, if you're happy, and can remain happy despite the fool you are being made out to be when you know inside that you are not, it can be enough to live.

It is impossible for me to be under-the-bridge poor and happy, but it is possible for me to be rich and depressed, or unhealthy perhaps a better word. On the other hand, I have seen the mentally-handicapped under the bridge, and happy, but they inevitably die of some strange disease.

Nonetheless, I would choose poor but happy as so many have gone down with a smile on their face despite a dreadful life-time of pain.

Most of what I just uttered here is complete nonsense, off-the-top-of-my-head thinking. Just my disclaimer and tomorrow I may feel differently.

    Great question.

  • Poor but happy. I'd hate to be rich but depressed because I'd suffer from self-loathing from being so materialistic. With hard work, you can go from poor to rich while at the same time you're happy that you made a big accomplishment. That's how it was with my best friend’s mom.

Poor but happy. Atleast i'd be happy and not sad wanting money xD.

  • Obviously one would rather be poor yet happy.

To a point, a higher income is linked to a happier life. Beyond that, quality of life actually decreases. It's certainly easier to be happy if you have money, but I think happiness can also be found in strong relationships and a passion for what one does.
I'd like to think that if I were rich, I would be philanthropic and do good for the world. But if I was depressed, I doubt that I would have the energy.
Thus, I'd much rather be poor and happy than rich and depressed, because an unmotivated rich person often accomplishes less good than a poor happy individual who can show compassion and provide emotional support.

I would be poor but happy, except I would probably not be very happy if I didn't have enough money to travel or camp.

Rich makes some people happy, but if you're happy to start with then you have no need to be rich.

So it's poor and happy for me.
