Would you rather “soften” or “toughen” up?

A lot of people struggle with how they handle words or situations.

Some people want to “toughen up” and become harder against insults, trauma, fear, or difficult situations.
Maybe this would make them less friendly, or less trusting. But it could also help them stand up to bullies, people who want to take advantage of them, or become more self sufficient.

Others may want to “soften up” and become more vulnerable, express emotions better, and build stronger relationships with others.
“Softening up” could help someone become less aggressive, let go of anger, work through their issues and accept help easier.

Are you trying to make either of these changes? Why?

Both! I think whether one ought to soften up, toughen up, or remain the same depends on the situation.

Stay the same, my fortitude is like a gated community. Everyone is screened upon entering but it has some nice views and is pretty open. I dont get hurt by most verbal shit just something you get over time.

Neither, I like who I am. I am tough when I need to be, but I don't need it too often. I am sensitive, so soft, I guess. But that is who I am and I do not want to change.

I've come to expect a lot of the shit I get on a daily basis. If I were to make any change it would be to physically toughen up, because i'm already emotionally quite assertive, but my body frame is pretty wiry.

I do have a soft side though for when I really enjoy somebody's company.

Toughen up definitely, I put up with far too much nonsense from people around me because I fear being alone.

Toughen up I guess. I honestly reckon if my boss ever had a go at me for fucking up with something, or if I ever had a job dealing with abusive customers, then I could actually start crying there and then.
