Would you rather?

Option A: Marry your best friend, your dream guy/girl, someone who is amazing in every possible way but you absolutely do not get along with their family/you hate them.

Option B: Settle for "okay" guy/girl, someone who is mediocre, you wouldn't call him your best friend, nothing great but not a bad guy/girl, just "decent". You're settling but his family are great/you get on with them fine/have no problems with them.

Option A 55
Option B 10

If I'd choose to marry someday, it obviously would be option A. Because I'm marrying that person not their family, and although I think it's good to get along well with the family,I expect them to not be dependent on their parents and conform to everything they say.

  • The problem with this poll is option A. That's the scenario for a romantic comedy, not exactly real life worthy. Theoretically speaking it could happen, but it's rare. People today expect that to happen. Option B is far more realistic.

Option A, for sure. If that person is so amazing and loves you, they will know their family is a challenge and do things to keep them from getting in the way of your happiness together.

I would have to take option A because I would only marry the person I adore and feel is the best candidate . I am not marrying her family so how they feel or treat me doesn't matter , I can try to resolve this issue but if not it wont make a difference .

My mother in law just left after a visit. We took her sailing, snorkeling and dining around the island and it was OK.
Underneath it all, I believe she would like to see us break up, because she misses her daughter and doesn't like her living so far away.
At least this visit she wasn't actively trying to break us up like last time, so that is an improvement.

Option A. There's nothing that requires me to deal with their family on a daily basis.

I completely blank my girlfriends mum. I met her once and instantly knew I wanted nothing to do with her and now 3 years later I haven't said a single hello to her.

Yeah funnily enough she has come to visit for about 4 days so I've actually moved out of our flat and gone to live with my grandparents for a week just so I don't have to be in the same room as her.

I'm living option A. I'd rather this than the alternative.

Option A. Is people hating me supposed to be a deterrent? That just makes life more interesting to me. Embrace the hate.
