Would you live in the past or the future?

Lets say you found a time machine and is only good for a one way trip. You get to pick how far in the future or past you like to go but it has to be AT LEAST 150 years apart from now, like it can be 500 years in past or future ect you cannot take anything with you. What will you pick and why?

At least 150 years in the past 6
At least 150 years in the future 18

  • The past. I've always said I felt like I was born into the wrong era.

The past. I really don't like all the technology and things like that and it's progressing so quickly. I want to live in a world full of trees and campfires, homing pigeons and smoke signals. I want to see the stars in the sky and feel wind beneath my wings. I don't want to see skylines of cities or the latest fashion trends. I shall have a tree house with a large nest and my friends will make me wildflower honey and I will barter with them for the perfect branch to hang their hive.

    • I agree with you. I have very little desire to see how awful the planet is going to look 150 yrs from now....

We could be distant neighbors! You teach me some survival skills and I'll teach you how to communicate with the birds, weave baskets and make furniture out of the bones of large animals that you've killed. I might even do your laundry!

If you bring more than just the apron, we'll have to discuss wether or not I should separate the whites from the colors...

The past, without a doubt. Clean air, clean water, no poisons in our food and a much more relaxed lifestyle.
I'd be a holdover to the age of sail fighting the steamships' taking over.

  • I would actually want to go back to the past. There are some events I would like to relive. I also want the future to be a surprise.

The past doesn't have all the great technology I enjoy and there might not be a future to even go to, so I'll just stick with the current time I'm in.

  • They both would have their positive and negative consequences.

The past we already know what will happen. In a way it would be great because you could predict things and become very successful.

With the future, it is unknown if humanity will even survive that long. You would be taking a chance into going to a post apolcolyptic world. It is also possible the future is really badass and filled with things to do. Its quite a gamble.

I think I may decline the offer for now though, because I already know people from here and would probably not know what to do in those other societies. If I were older and had already done things I wanted, I would probably choose to go around a million years in the future to see what happened. I am very curious, but I have things to do in the present while I am still here.

The past for sure.. I'd really choose about 65 years, but if minimum order is 150 then so be it.

Past: I discover and invent all sorts of new things people have never seen before, make lots of money, live in luxury.

Future: I'm a caveman people laugh at, end up being anally probed for somehow managing to time travel.

    Tough choice.

10 years in the past. I can't take anything with me, but I can take what I already know... Might have to open up the internet before I go back in time. Need to write down some numbers on my skin...

Go back to my parents house, get some money and off to cash in on my knowledge.

    Profit!

If it must be at least 150, first I'll brush up on my history, then I'll go back to pirate times.
The 1600s. Again using knowledge, I will become an inventor. "Invent" a few things Get some money, find a pirate ship, modify it.
Think with 17th century technology I could build a steam engine and an oil engine.

I will be the first to have a motorized, armor-plated pirate ship with advanced weaponry. I will be unstoppable!

    Either way - profit!

10,000 years in the future. If mankind still exists and money still exists i'll be such an ancient specimen I'd be rich.

Screw a hundred years I just want to experience the late 60's early 70's. The music, the culture, the cars....things back then were so much better. I'd kill to have the chance to go to and experience Woodstock.

The future - hands down. Moral ideals always seem to evolve and improve only when given a chunk of time to do so.

As the years go by, everyone seems to be becoming more accepting of others. I think that's a beautiful thing that I wouldn't be too keen on missing out on.
