I would have no problem with killing someone for that or even if they broke into my house while I'm home.
Anyone who breaks into someone's home should be prepared for possible consequences and it is their own fault if someone kills them.
I would not lose any sleep over it.
The thing about someone breaking into houses is that you don't know if you are in danger, so it's best to assume you are.
If someone breaks into my house while I am sleeping, I will assume they have a gun.
Anyone who breaks into someone's house should be aware of the possible consequences of getting shot, so personally I think that is their own fault.
Better safe than sorry.
Might want to check your state's laws (assuming you're from the U.S.). Many states' laws would agree that a home invasion is all that's required to justify deadly force, but others, like my home state, require that the intruder be armed.
...for the record...I agree with you.
Are you in Texas? I grew up in Texas and it's legal to use deadly force to defend your property there.
Iowa.
In most states it's illegal to use deadly force to protect property; and to be honest, I couldn't live with myself if I shot someone over my t.v.
Most places in the U.S. require proof of deadly intent. In some states, forced entry into an occupied home is reason enough...in others, the assailant must be armed. In many, like Iowa, it's subjective. For example, if a 140lb, 5'8" man invaded my home unarmed... I'm 5'11" and 200lbs, I'd have a hard time convincing a jury that I had to use deadly force to protect myself. My 125lb wife, or my 80lb daughter would stand a better chance making that argument.
A few states allow the use of deadly force for property protection. While I'm a staunch defender of self-defense, I'm not a proponent of killing over material goods. I can buy new stuff...most often insurance will cover it. You can't replace a human life, no matter how wrong stealing is...it doesn't warrant death.
Yeah I forget that it is likely they would have a gun. But still, I'd see shooting to kill as a real last resort. If I had to shoot, I'd try not to kill them. But still... these things happen pretty quickly so it's hard to say.
The question is (YOUR SPOUSE)What about children?. You bet, I could in a heartbeat. Now if it's over property that I can replace then who care's.
yup no problem feeding there dead bodys to the pigs we got over 15 huge ones they love human meat muahahahah
Im gunna go against the grain here and confess that i would run and grab my white flag and wave it around wildly while sobbing in the fetal position in the nearest corner. I may even hand over my firearms to the intruder out of fear that they are possibly the terminator sent back in time to kill me.
Well, if I were to ever have a spouse then yes, I would.
In later news: WHAT DA YA MEAN THAT'S NOT A DUCK?!
Even if it was not necessary, I think I almost certainly would use deadly force on someone who threatened someone I deeply loved (if I had the means to do so). I'm sure many other people feel the same way. I would, also like many other people, not feel much in the way of guilt.
However, we have to make sure we separate what we would do without guilt from what is morally right. I think the use of deadly force that is not necessary to remove the danger cannot be morally justified, and the state would be more than justified in convicting me of a crime. I would not fight prosecution. We are imperfect moral beings, and the legal system should hold us to a very high standard of moral action.
Hell no! I'd pay them! But if anyone messed up my house or touched my things it would be an instant death sentence.
