Would you hire someone with a record?
So I am an Assistant Manager at a chain store and part of my job is to go through applications and select the most "worthy" candidates so my boss doesn't have to sift through the "unworthy" candidates herself.
Lately, I have been seeing a lot of applications submitted by people with criminal records, some ranging from mild (a larceny charge, an assault charge, a DUI etc.) to severe (multiple assaults, Grand Theft, I even got a guy that was convicted of 2nd Degree Murder!). I generally only really consider people with some experience or people who look like promising candidates and other factors, but seeing all of the applications from people with records AND that have experience is crazy, because if some of these people didn't have a record, I'd say they were quite worthy as candidates (the guy with 2nd Degree murder was the best qualified!), and I still suggest them to avoid being pegged for discrimination, I'm not 100% on the policy here, I was just trained to sift. If my boss is going to break any rules with her hiring process, let HER get pegged.
So my question is, would YOU hire someone with a record?
