Would you get angry if your friend was transgender?

Let's say you become good friends with a woman and stayed friends for many years. Eventually she tells you that she is transgender/was born a male, however she tells you either by the current topic being on transgenders or just conversation, not like a confession or anything.

Keep in mind that the relationship is fully platonic with nothing sexual involved. Would you get angry not knowing this at the start or not care?

I would sort of be upset and feel like a fool for being lied to about such a big thing. I probably would not hate this person or drop them as a friend but i would definitely not hang out with them for awhile only because they lied to me for so long.

Here is my take on it. Unless you are planning on fucking someone (or having some other "sexual" contact), their sex and/or sexuality is irrelevant.

That being said, you should be happy and honoured - because your friend obviously trusts and respects you to share such a deeply personal fact with you - a fact which she didn't have to share.

I think becoming angry at such a personal confession would be highly disrespectful and nothing a good friend would do.

Angry responses to this normally happen if the friend had secret romantic feelings, or is homophobic to some degree.

Otherwise, the common reaction would be shock/surprised, ask a bunch of inappropriate questions, make jokes, and then get over it. Why? Because them being transgender wouldn't change anything in the friendship, you simply just learned something new about your friend.

I would be as upset as if I'd found out that he or she has six toes on one foot.

What fucking difference does it make?

True friends are few. Discriminate wisely.

What reason is there to be upset . I would take it in stride.

I'd be more worried than angry. Depression rates are huge among them, and the reassignment surgery/hormone pills are linked to a large number of suicides.

It's a mental disease that shouldn't be defended but understood and treated. Unfortunately for those who suffer from it, it's become in fashion to encourage them.
