Would you eat your own placenta?

Consuming the placenta after childbirth was once very common. It isn't so much these days, however it does still happen. You don't have to eat it raw like a savage, or even cooked in a stew. There are methods of dehydration where you can turn it unto a pill and take it like a vitamin.

Have you ever considered eating the placenta? Or, if you don't have the ability to make your own, imagine you did.

What would you do with it?

Is it normal?

Definitely, if it helps with post partum depression I would certainly do it, because I'm very strongly predisposed to severe depression.

If you use your imagination they do sort of look like a pizza but without a firm crust.
Probably doesn't taste much different than a Pappa John's.

I don't think I've ever considered it. I can only imagine the look on my doctor's face when I say I'd like to take my placenta home and fry it up in a pan.
Anyone know what it tastes like? Texture?

    • Maybe leave out the cooking method part. I had mine dehydrated and put un capsules. My doctor was fine with it, it was all the nurses who thought I was crazy. They all tried to force iron pills down my throat and I had to tell them why.

It's an organ like that of many mammals, think liver. I'm not sure what it tastes like but it smelled like iron rich blood and left that metallic aftertaste in my belly.

A billion times "No!". To me, this is a form of cannibalism.

    • Have you ever chewed on finger nails or bit the inside of your cheek. Are people who do this cannibals too? Not that it matters to me.

The placenta isn't just biological waste, as western medicine deems it. It does serve a purpose both before and after birth. Studies have shown that consuming it is a great way to prevent post partum depression as well as providing bio available iron to help with recovery after all the blood loss. No supplement can compare.
