Would you donate your eggs to stem cell research?

I read an article and at the end of it they mentioned there is a need for eggs, and I wasn't planning on having any children, so I thought what the hell? But I am still very young. I would only have children if there was some way to guarantee they would not be cursed with any disease that runs through mine, or their father's bloodline.

I think my chances of having children are very slim. And I would absolutely love to know I helped the scientific community.

I would like to know your opinions on this topic.

    A woman is born with several hundred thousand eggs. You do not make any new eggs, they are all created while you are in your mother's womb. You will use about 300 or so naturally through your menstrual cycle. That leaves a good few hundred thousand left over. It's not like you're going to run out or be depleted!

    That said, the process of harvesting the eggs is very involved. You have to take lots of hormones and medications. This is where most of your risk is. And realize, you CANNOT have sex at any time around when you are donating (you will likely end up with a very dangerous, very MULTIPLE pregnancy!!). Most, if not all, doctors will not do these types of procedures without extensive psychological, background, genetic and other testing.

    It's not like it's easy or that you just walk in and do it, it takes months and years to do, with a lot of risk with the meds.

    If you go through all the testing and everything and still want to do it, then I think that's a noble decision. If it's something you're that passionate about, then go for it if it's what you want!

    I voted yes, although it comes with a "but". I would only donate eggs after my 30th birthday or so. As you get older, your preferences and wishes change. While you may not want a child now, and think you'll never want one, You can't assume that that is what you will always feel.

    It is my opinion that at the age of 30, if you still ABSOLUTELY don't want kids, then that might be closer to the feeling you'll have your entire life so are in a better position to donate eggs.

    If my body was "normal", I would. Meaning- If I wasn't on any medications or if I was the way I should be.

    But I do think it's a good cause. So many people could be helped with stem cells. I could be helped, as well as a few family members. And any number of other people.

    Even though I am a guy, I would say to wait until after you have kids already or until you are older like Ihadtomakeyetanotheraccountffs said.

    If I was a woman, I definately would, and I think more people ought to consider it. But obviously I can't know how I'd feel if it were possible for me too donate eggs.
