Would you describe yourself as an alternative person?

Just to clarify, by alternative, I mean goth, emo, punk etc. I could go on.
The past few times I have been onto IIN, all there seems to be is discussions of Gerard Way and My Chemical Romance (you know who you are!) and similar things to that.
I would class myself as an average, glamour, mainstream girl. I am wondering if I am the only one?!

Glamour? Haha, I don't know why that made me laugh, but it did. To answer your question, I don't fit into any one group. I would feel restricted by belonging to just one group. I'm just myself really, and I don't know how normal I am for being that.

:/ To clarify lol, NOT glamour as in the oranges you get on shows like Snog, Marry, Avoid but glamour as in knowing how to do make up well, knowing how to do my hair well and throw a good outfit together. Glamour in that way, the real classic way. NOT the orange tits and ass out way.

I'm alternative to reality. That's all the alternative I am.

Other than that, my makeup is very nice. I wore goth makeup once, when I was 2 years old, with a little friend, and our mothers left us in the care of our fathers, watching football.

Like most people, I don't fit neatly into one box. Paradoxically by not fitting neatly into a box we all fit neatly into the 'miscellaneous box' totally contradicting my point and making this paragraph pointless :(

If you were the only one 'not alternative' that would, ironically, make you the alternative one :P

In terms of subcultures centred around music genres I'm not part of one, I don't really have an attitude or visual identity that specific. I've never been so passionate or obsessive about a single thing that I've wanted to reflect it in every way - from my attitude to my clothing.

If I was forced at gunpoint to try and characterise myself, I'd probably just have to say eclectic and a little odd. Oh and fucking sexy as fuck.

A lot of people told me I look like Barney Stinson, which is odd since I don't own that many suits. Oh well, it's kind of a compliment I guess, since a lot of guys admire him.

Alternative to what? I do not define myself based on what I wear or the music I listen to. I wish you wouldn't either. I am just me. Sometimes I look like a business women and sometimes I pull off the hippie look quite well. But usually I just look normal in my jeans and plain colored t-shirt. It'd be foolish to label me as one or the other for I am neither.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I don't know. Through my high school years I always felt I knew who I was. I never needed a label to define me.

I'm comfortable looking how I look. I don't feel the need to be "out there" with my appearance because I don't want to be judged on my appearance. I don't want to label people "mainstream" or "alternative", because what's the point of labeling someone by their interests or appearance when interests and appearance don't define a personality?

Going by the "normal" definitions, I'm "mainstream" by how I look and "alternative" by my interests.

Nah, I'm boring. I don't follow any group style nor do I have any individual sense of style. I very much don't want to be noticed. Or not for my clothes, anyway. I'd be distraught if someone summed up who I am with "That red T-shirt he had was pretty nice". I'd rather be noticed for what I do and think rather than something I once bought in a shop.

I'm aware this isn't a common viewpoint, though, so maybe I'm my own kind of alternative.

    Fuck labels haha :)

Not sure if you'd label me as a mix but:

Both ears pierced with Diamond studs (not fake! lol)
    3 Tattoos on my arm
Always wear Converse shoes (I don't want flat feet!)
My hair varies, I always change the style (right now it's a bit grown from my buzz :D)
I wear soccer jerseys/sweaters and I also wear skinny jeans with polos
I've been wearing a new era hat whilst my hair grows

Would I be like a melting pot mix if you were to label me? Lol

        Amen to that

Several people I know wore them during several years and developed flat feet and they tried to join the Army but they were denied.

I love these shoes but I don't know how much longer I can keep wearing them (Have another new pair..)

I would describe myself as alternative yes the type of music I listen to God bless My chemical romance Gerard way is perfect especially with black hair. When it comes to dressing I dress how I like & what I like is described as alternative that's fine by me I don't dress to look alternative on purpose. I like Red hair so much I'm talking screaming red but lately I've been spotting black hair at the front & red at the back. I love who I am in those aspects. Wish alternative people lived in my neighbourhood that'd be so awesome, also God bless liquid eyeliner

Some people may describe me as one of those "alternative" people just by the way I dress and act, but I don't consider myself to be. I don't like to label myself. Although, in high school, I considered myself to be punk, but I think labels are a bit childish. I believe you are who you are. I consider myself an individual. I am aware that I am unique and I like to embrace it, but that's all.

...And who on earth has been talking about Gerard Way and My Chemical Romance?? ;)
