Would you date someone with schizophrenia?

I've never had trouble with hook ups, relationships don't always last too long though. I function fine, have plenty of friends, do well in my college classes, and hold down a job just fine. I handle being drunk well, am fine high, and can handle some of the strong stuff like any other person. All in short, you wouldn't know I'm a schizo unless I told you, and I rarely do. I don't get violent, I don't "talk to myself" in public, I don't have depression or anxiety, I'm just chill with a few mental hiccups every now and then.
But, some nights get rough, I have a tri-daily medicine routine with high doses that make me sick/drowsy sometimes, I meet with a clinical psychiatrist bi-weekly for an hour, and have been hospitalized 4 times in my life between the age of 17 and now, I'm 23. With how my breed of schiz usually goes, it'll get slightly worse up until I'm 30 and then "calm down" (Schizophrenia is an incurable disease)
How much would my level of mental health weigh into a relationship? Or any level of my disease/other psych illness?

Yes 24
No 16
Only if it's well managed (No episodes/fits) 23
I wouldn't date anyone with a mental illness 13

I know two people with Schizophrenia, one is a complete mess, one is just barely functional. I wouldn't date either of them (even if they were otherwise attractive). But, clearly you are a whole lot better off than either of those people. Obviously the diagnosis covers a pretty broad range. Even in the best case it would still be a concern, but as long as they had it well under control and didn't act... you know "crazy" I would consider it.

My cousin has schizophrenia and is happily married and has his masters degree. Having a mental illness doesnt mean you can't live a normal life.

I would date someone with a mental illness if they were functional.

I would go out with you a few times so that I could learn to recognize the subtle signs of the disease. This would help me to avoid people like you in the future.

PS. Glad you are able to do hook ups without any problems.

I am actually a happy spectator in this psychological zoo of weirdos. That's why I like IIN. I would like to put schizos like you on TV. The drama of your condition would be fascinating.

Melbourne Mel's (charli.m) BPD is good drama, and you only need to log in to enjoy it.

Sorry, BPD doesn't do it for me unless they are gladiators from the Roman Empire, that make everyone pay for their anguish and pain. The catharsis of their ultimate destruction is wonderful.

Talking about me to yourself, again?

Seeing as you can't even get my city right, let's continue our well based assumption that you don't know what BPD is. Particularly as you think periods are a symptom.

        • I'd love to be locked up in a room with you.
Hell I'll even skip a few pills if you want something interesting.
Fuck you man, I'd have you as my bitch. You're a sick fuck. Thinking you're so high and mighty and talking like people with mental illness are below you.
I've had plenty of geniuses try to pick my brain, you aren't going to make a break through.

You are absolutely right. I am a sick fuck and proud of it. I am not high, nor am I mighty. My neurotic tendency is to laugh at people; even at myself. I could be a dick wad on TV, but the ratings would be too low. But with you as my comedy partner raping my ass, we might even make prime time!

Yeah of course, I'd even go as far as hiding her meds and getting her wasted. It'd be like fucking two different girls without the guilt.

No, because I'm taken right now, but honestly if I were free I probably wouldn't feel comfortable dating someone with schizophrenia. Sorry, that's just my personal comfort zone. I do wish you well though.
