Would you date someone with a mental illness?

Providing that you knew about their mental illness before going on a date with them, would you be interested in dating them?

Anxiety and depression are extremely common.

When it comes to mental illnesses, what you should be more concerned about is how they are handling it. Never date someone who wallows in their disorders and use it as an excuse for why they can't do this or that, because there are people out there with far worse who strive to not let their illness define who they are. Also, never date someone who uses mental illnesses as an excuse to mistreat you or make their mental problems your responsibility.

    Basically, just date smart.

Actually people with mental illness should not date people who know nothing about mental illness but still give their stupid opinion every chance the get

You're right. Even though my issues are 100% my responsibility, I'm glad my boyfriend understands my anxiety and I do my best to understand him as well.

Didn't understand the "stupid opinion" part, but oh well. :)

I've done that far too often, mostly with people with alcohol and/or drug problems as well as mental problems. I'd rather be single, it's too draining in most cases

Since most people in modern society today have, to some degree, some mental instability, I would think it nearly impossible to find a completely sane person to date.
However, there are certainly some bona fide illnesses that would crush any attempt at a healthy relationship. So my answer would have to be that it would depend on the illness and how severe it was.

No one values your opinion. You are pathetic and worthless. Everyone hates you.

I don't see you ever getting thumbs up (unless you do it for yourself), so on what do you base your statement?

Well seeing as I have anxiety, depression and attention deficit disorder ( and wonder about bipolar or bpd) hell yes

The way I look at it there are two possibilities, either it would be great to be with someone who just.... Gets it, or we would both feed each other's anxiety and worry and fall down a hole of existential dread together, either way it'd be an interesting ride

Your sense of humor about it is literally one of the best quality to have in dealing with your own issues

i don't mind mental illness in a girl at all. they're much more interesting to chat with than your average female. my main "serious" relationship was with these twin sisters i was dating at the same time. they were both painfully shy and awkward around people they didn't know very well. being out in public places was a nightmare for them,so i guess they looked to me for strength. the old guys that were preying on them eventually found out i was god to them and screamed at them untill they cried like stern father figures they apparently crave... the most recent one was a psychotic and violent.

their lives have to be so fucking boring i get sad just thinking about it. like, wtf are they supposed to talk about with these 50 year old guys? old films... oh i just figured out my own question's answer because my iq is literally pushing 500+: they bond over watching obscure foreign films and avant-garde hipster crap and the old guys act AMAZED at the young pretty girl's maturity, old soul, and intellect. " i can't believe you got that message from this omfg you smart intelligent girlie! i so impressed sit on daddy's (50 year old ugly coward) lap. if those guys weren't so rich they'd be in jail. i just really hate them hulk thank you for listening.

I spent my life counseling crazy people. Why would I turn someone down for being crazy?

How would you feel if someone turned you down solely because of an innate, yet manageable, illness you had, hmm? Sure it may be difficult but you're making us seem like "those people".
