Would you choose your baby's appearance?

I read somewhere that you could go to a doctor and actually choose the way what you want your baby to look like. Whether it be eye color or hair color. Do you think this a good idea or a horrible idea? Some people say this is playing with God's hands. State your reason why and why not in the comments.

If it's for aesthetic reasons, then it is wrong, but if it's to remove chromosomal abnormalities which might put the baby's postnatal health at risk, then it is acceptable.

No. Why would you want to mess with nature? Honestly, people who said "yes" are just being superficial. Who cares what eye/hair color your child has? As long as they are healthy, what else is there?

Give my kid white irisses and high eyebrows so he always looks like a surprised cartoon character.

Probably surprised at how dumb he looks.

Either that or some sort of identification number on the scalp so my child isn't one of the 12 given to the wrong parents, and so when he grows up he can pretend he's been to prison.

    The number would be 1337.

Or maybe just a friendly reminder, like "Change my undergarments regularly" or "You've punished me enough"

I don't mind messing my nature, but I would only choose a better appearance if I knew my baby would be born really ugly, to save him/her the embarrassment.

Just read your reply today October 10, 2011 and I agree with you 100% you should not mess with God and His creations, the way that child should look should be totally Gods wonderful design, and not a factory model.

I would not, because I'd love my child no matter what their appearance was. Also, you are made in God's image. Not your own. Leave it to him :)

Genetic tampering is a very dangerous double edged sword. Once people start, everyone is gonna feel pressured to do it so their kids can keep up with the others. Then before you know it we will have altered our genome so much we won't be recognizable anymore. I'm pretty sure grey aliens are us from the future trying to restore their genome with an earlier biological sample from our species. We are gonna be very tall and slender and have no pigment to our skin and no hair all because of genetic modification.

Wouldn't do it, sometimes people need to stay in their place, let nature & God do their thing.

Noo, your child is meant to be a mixture of you and your partner, I do not understand why that should be changed, its like plastic surgery but on babies. Soo wrong

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • only to make sure that the baby is not a redhead. I am a redhead and I feel insecure about my appearence all the time. Even to the point to dye my hair. I donĀ“t want my baby to feel like that, so just basic brown or blonde hair.

I think changing little things you don't like about yourself that might affect the child could be OK but not major things... for example I can't stand my insanely curly hair, so if it were possible I'd change the gene for curly hairr and give my kid straighter hair

I hope for anyone who chooses this, that their baby does not come out the way they want. I also hope for anyone who uses gender selection that their child will turn out transgendered.

Its a slippery slope. First its for health reasons then gender control...then being able to choose eye and hair color. Then suddenly parents also want their children to be beautiful. But that won't be enough either. Soon everyone will want a beautiful, charismatic, athletic, intelligent, artistic, tall, skinny, disciplined, controllable child that is a prodigy at everything without any physical or mental health issues who will stay in line.

its my kid, i made it and if i get the power to control the process of making it, i would alter my childs appearance. Just to be safe and make sure my child isnt ugly.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Yes and no... I wouldn't do it, but if you and your husband are bother REALLY ugly then maybe you should do it.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • i wouldnt because i dont think its fair to them to choose what they look like for them,i dont lik the way i look,so im sure they'll most likey have the same problem, plus i'd always wonder what they'd look like if i hadn't done it,plus they should be able to alter the apperence they were born with

hm yes and no.....I want darker children, but I guess I just have to do a darker guy lol..mind you i have a child who is a quarter south asian, I was expecting the whole dark hair, brown eyes...but my child is just as blonde and blue eyed as me boohooo lol but i wouldn't change my baby for the world...if you have some idea about how you want your kids to look like, look for those things in a man/ woman to see if they can give you what you want :)

messing with nature is not good! and yes we should be happy to have healthy children over all :)

In a way we have some control. I mean, when choosing a partner we have an inbuilt selector and if somebody looks annoying or stupid, we're just not going to want that. Women like big, strong, handsome and intelligent men. Sometimes though certain things need to be overlooked but if you can get as close to the things that you want in a child then you'll be pretty happy.

let nature work its magic! don't choose your baby's appearance. there's some lines humans just shouldnt cross, and we're slowly tiptoeing over it...
