I'm going to be completely honest here- deep down, I consider myself a very jealous person. Even if they're the nicest person ever, I don't think I could ever be a true friend to a rich person because deep in my heart, I would be completely and utterly jealous of them.

I feel like I already get so easily jealous of other people, the last think I need is a rich friend to be jealous of.

If we truly got along, then yes. I wouldn't befriend them for their money. Wealth shouldn't really be a factor in friendship, should it? It's down to how they act about it.

  • I'd let them befriend me for sure, but I think I'd be hestitant to befriend them in case they thought I was doing it because of the difference in our incomes.

I don't think I've ever really socialised with people who'd be seen as rich (although I shook Prince Charles' hand once).

I *think* I'd treat rich people the same but like some people have an angel and a devil on each shoulder, I have Marx and Engels on mine. What would I have in common with someone who was born in inherited wealth and whose whole life was devoted to pleasure? Is it fair that I have to provide for myself and they had their whole life provided for by an accident of birth? I don't know. I'm not complaining. Much.

I think I'd get on better with people from my background, though.

    Yeah, why not?

I have been friends with a rich person. I benefitted greatly from their fondness of cocaine, but in general, took great care to NOT depend on them or accept stuff they offered out of a mood(e.g. while drunk).
They are just normal people, too. They can live a slightly different lifestyle, but other than that, they are just human.
And often they will share freely as long as they are not taken advantage off, simply because being rich alone is not fun.

    Why can't a rich person befriend a non-rich person?

The only thing I would worry about is that we'd never be able to go anywhere they might want to go because I wouldn't be able to afford it. There would be a huge gap between how much we could spend, and I mean huge! Besides that, if they're a good person then why not be friends with them?
