Would you be friends with a pedophile who tries to control himself?

As in if the person was sexually attracted to children, but he/she could control him/herself and resist the temptation to molest/rape little kids. Would you be friends with him/her, knowing he/she is a pedo?

P.S. I am not a pedo, I am just asking.

Yes. If he hadn't done any sexual act on any children then we cannot call him a pedophile even if he says that the idea gives him some sort of pleasure.

Does thinking about getting someone killed make us a criminal?? The same applies here.

    • You are apparently ignorant of the definition of the word "pedophile."
If one is attracted to kids, they are a pedophile. Whether or not they act on their proclivity is irrelevant.

Agreeing with True in this point... he is absolutely right... I'm attracted to animals and have never had sex with one also thinking about never doing it at all but I'd still consider myself to be a zoophile...

It depends how completely they controlled it. If we were walking down the street together, and he started leering at a 5 year old girl, checking her out, telling me how he thought she was hot... no, I couldn't deal with that. Even typing that sentence creeps me out. But if he never mentioned it, kept it to himself (or herself, come to think of it, as women can be paedophiles too :P), never brought it up again after the one time he told me and he was otherwise a nice person then yes, we could be friends. Although I'd never feel completely comfortable around him.

What if his/her friendship with you introduced him to a child in your family, or a friend's child?

I have my own kids so that's my #1 reason why I wouldn't be friends with a pedo, but even if I didn't I still wouldn't have anyone like that around me out of respect for family and friends that have kids. I wouldn't want to be responsible for even the slightest chance that I initiated any contact, or even THOUGHTS, towards ANY children I know. Some things you just don't take chances with!

Agreed. I certainly wouldn't allow such a friend to come into contact with kids, especially kids in my family who I have some responsibility for. Luckily it's quite easy for me to keep my friend life and my life with my extended family separate, although obviously that isn't so for everyone.

I was friends with a pedo when I was around 10 years old. I don't know what happened between us. He acted kind of foolish a lot. I guess I just got too mature for him.

    I struggled with this question.

I think I could be friends with someone if I was satisfied that they were doing everything in their power to prevent themselves from acting on the urges and if they were seeking therapy to try and overcome the attraction.

I don't believe you can choose what you find sexually attractive.

I probably wouldn't ask them to babysit my daughter.

No, I can't be friends with people I find to be lower than scum.

As a childcare worker, no. I would not put my career at risk.

Also, while I understand he or she would be trying to control themselves...I just couldn't be around it. My judgement isn't going to help their situation.

TRIES? This word suggest the potential for failure and acceptance of the outcome.

Quote Master Yoda "There is no TRY only CAN and CANNOT"

Therefore, I would not knowingly risk the innocence of a child and or place their wellbeing at risk while the potential exist.

Not unless the man was castrated and penis removed, then sure, lets be friends.

They can still touch. And lick. Or it might be a female. There's no way to "safeguard" against this stuff

I'm friends with a guy who used to get off to people dying, so it's not entirely impossible for me to have that sort of friendship. If this is more than hypothetical, why doesn't your friend get help? My friend isn't the same person he was before. We can end up in really dark places that allow us to be capable of terrible things sometimes, but that doesn't mean the person is beyond saving. You could have the opportunity to change things.

If you're "born" homosexual and you can't help your attraction, why are people hypocritical over someone who hasn't broken the law?

Well I knew people like this. I tried to help them told them they needed help. They did not want to listen to me and said it was a perfectly natural thing. I stopped talking to them. To anyone who do tries and control themselves please seek help. I find it disgusting that anyone would want to be with a child in that manner.

It would be a different thing if the guy had a conviction for it or something like that. But if he's never done anything about it... well, come on! It's not such a black and white matter. We are all a little bit like that. Maybe not attracted to little kids, but come on:

Let's just make this clear... I have talked to several pedophiles or those who pretended to be and they seemed pretty normal in a standard conversation except for the fact they were attracted to children... Most of them said they really hated being a pedophile and because they truly love children they'd never ever do anything sexual to them because they know that it would hurt the child...

I admit that as a zoophile I have a teeny, tiny bit more comprehension for people with an unusual sexual orientation and I sure could be friends with someone like that... I could also stand him to talk about a little girl and say she's hot because he won't rape her or so^^

    No.

I see my friends as a collection of all the things I know about them.

I could not bear to be around him/her, knowing s/he fantasises of robbing childrens' innocence.

In my mind, I would see/feel a repulsive presence emanating from him/her.

I can't believe their are more yes's then no's. This shits fucked up, and fuck no I couldn't any person who thinks about children in that way are too fucked to the core. I could be friends with someone who has murdered someone before I could a pedo. If I even came across someone I knew was a pedo I'd have a hard time not killing the bitch ass little cunts and saving the future innocence of children. What the fuck is wrong with you people??

Depends if s/he's a really good friend or just an average friend. Also it would depend if the person has actually done something to some kid or s/he just thinks about it and struggles with it.

Depends on how much you like the person, and if he REALLY KEEPS THAT SHIT UNDER CONTROL.

I don't think I could ever be friends with someone who was tempted to rape kids, or rape anyone else for that matter. But if you mean "statutory rape", then yeah. It wouldn't bother me as long as they were able to behave responsibly.
