If I talk 4 languages, but one day I realise that I talk what I have always called my fourth language, more than my second and third, do i have to keep calling it my fourth language? or i start calling it my second language?

To be honest, I'd only use the term "second language" if I only spoke two languages. After that, it'd be "first language" and "other languages". That might just be me, though.
Did you call it your fourth because it was the fourth that you learned? I'd think frequency of usage should determine numerical status.
I refer to Spanish as my second language and Japanese as my third, but I'm not sure that's the correct way to do it.
This is very confusing.
Um, I guess I go would by both. For instance, let's say that the second language I learned was japanese and the third I learned was French. Numerically , Japanese would be my second language, but I'm always speaking the French so French would be my "second language due to frequent usage. Does that make sense?
