Would prior diagnoses disqualify me for police academy?

I was previously diagnosed with a long list of disorders as a child and medicated for them. I was at age 12 resolved of any diagnoses. Most of the stuff they tried to say I had was erased from record and was based on what they called "Hearsay".

They would take accounts from other children that would say things like "Yeah they are weird, they are a bitch they are stupid" and put that down as criteria for a diagnoses.

They never did any real investigation to see if these sources were true though. I was terribly unpopular because I was kind of quiet. However my mother wants so badly for me to have a diagnoses since she has one. My dad works for the police academy(not as cop since his hearing sucks) and I have many cops in my family.

I don't know. Considering what lead to them being put on record and what subsequently lead them to be taken off, they should have the sense to put that into consideration. In Ferguson, when the riots really started to take off, it came to public knowledge that the police force in that area had many officers that had previously come from the military. Soldiers are notorious for having PTSD after coming back. The military, has changed its policies on allowing people with mental illnesses to join. Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask them.

    • Its just I not sure what to tell them. Since they said they will want any medical records if you were diagnosed with a disorder. However I was also told after you leave high-school no one looks at those records.

So does that mean they are going to look through my entire high-school history? It was resolved at age 12 and I was taken off medication and at least 3 doctors after said most of the material was made up, falsified or not really from credible witnesses.

So does that mean they want high-school records as well? I have no real current diagnoses and I have not taken meds since age 12 and I am now 21. It was determined I was not insane, did not need to be in a mental institution, was not a danger and that medication was not going to fix anything.

Go ahead and apply. You won't get in if you don't even try.

The ADA law in the US protects against discrimination based on any type of handicap including mental illness...but you have to be able to perform the basic functions of the job.....you have to be able to do the job...
