This is a sexist poll.. you should have asked for both genders because I'm a female and HATE dating guys who smoke. I've been thru that experience and it absolutely SUCKED! I hate having to breathe 2nd hand smoke! Also smoking is dumb for several reasons. 1. the majority of voters DO NOT smoke, so logically they vote the taxes on cigarettes.. so the prices are outrageous. 2. it's an addiction and when you want to quit you can't. 3. It wares on your health, your looks, etc. If you're underage and sneak cigs to be rebellious, you're doing yourself a big disservice. Your parents don't want you to smoke because they want good things for you.. don't be a dope.
Very well said MaskedGunman.
But unfortunately I see smoking as only a habit and wouldn't really affect my view of them.
I don't get it when people say smokers smell bad and their fingers are yellow. I have NEVER met a smoker with yellow fingers and none of them smell bad. They usually don't smell anything, or they're wearing perfume.
This is coming from a non-smoker, by the way. Let people do what they want to do and don't make a big deal out of their habits, prudes.
What's interesting is how many people voted that it makes women look cheap... I'd like to know how many of those people are also smokers.
I smoke, and I've never been rejected because of it as far as I'm aware. My ex hated it but he put up with it cuz at the end of the day, it's looks and personality that count. Anybody who'd reject a woman on such a shallow basis isnt worth keeping around.
It isn't the person that you hate. Mostly, it is the stink. I grew up with a smoker, and every year that I am away from it, I hate the addiction more. You do realize that less than 20% of people in the U.S. smoke, and that 70% of smokers regret the day they started. My father quit when they cut his nose off--yes, the whole nose. For the next three years every time he spent more than five minutes with his kids he apologized for his smoking. He started smoking at age 6 and was 64 when he quit. You have been rejected out of hand for a long time and I think you know it: you do realize that whoever rejected you did not think you were worth having around solely on your addiction.
I'm from the UK, maybe it's different here - a lot more people smoke. I guess I do tend to date smokers, but then I'm a raver so most guys who are into the same music etc as I am smoke anyway. I'm not gonna try and say it's good for you because obviously it isn't, or that it smells good because obviously it doesn't, but I do think it's shallow to reject someone simply because of that. Everyone has their faults - I quit smoking for a year, and I dated guys who smoked during that time. It didn't bother me.
Smoking ruins a woman's skin and voice. It is also an indicator that she is a simple-minded herd animal with no self-respect. For me, there exists no more potent a turn-off.
I remember as a kid riding in the car with the folks, the family all piled into the station wagon. It rains most the time where I live so heaven forbid the folks get rain drops on them. So The folks sit in the front, both smoking, us kids in the back gagging trying to breath, and almost throwin up. We roll a window down for fresh air and they would tell us "Roll up the damn window". I SWORE I would NEVER become addicted to the drug most legally grown, marketed, and sold all around the world. They SMELL NASTY, the smokers breath stinks, the clothes and their environment all smells. My dad still smokes, he refuses to open a door, window, or go outside to smoke. If you open the front door at his house the stench of stale cheap cigarettes. Yuck...
BLEACH BABY,, Maybe he was also concerned about your health, maybe he wanted to, at the time, live a life with you instead of seeing you suffer from lung cancer or any of the multitude of illnesses that arise from them nasty things. AND Also,, I hate having to smell that 2nd hand poisen. If people want to smoke around me, then you wont mind if I start farting around you, right?
The two guys above are exaggerting, surely? It's not that bad, unless she's a chain smoker.
I wouldn't date a guy who smoked because of the health risks he puts himself to be exposed to and because of the smokers breath. Cigarettes killed my dad... I'd never date a smoker.
I personally find smoking a big turn off when looking for a relationship. I want my girl and her babies to be healthy. Now if it were a one night thing I wouldn't give a damn.
Smokings a choice, i respect peoples choices. I quit smoking when i was 17. Wasnt really hard. If i see a girl smoking it depends how she does it, socially its always cool. But using it as a release kinda annoys me. Then again you can tell when a womans mad when they go "thats it! im having a smoke!" So, you know when your in the shit i guess. But i dont really go " Coooooooorrrr look at the pouted lips on that chick! she can really suck that cigarette dry!" I just see her as a normal girl, we all have habits.
Smoking is an addiction, and like many addictions it starts at a young age before the ramifications are fully realized. This is why we have age laws concerning alcohol, and tobacco (though both are poorly enforced). Statistically almost no one starts after age 21--when the health risks are more clear.
Smokers regularly go through withdrawal during the day--I have to go for a smoke. It doesn't relax them, it is just satisfying an addiction. It is more addicting than heroin or cocaine. And it impacts your health as well.
I don't personally like smoking since people in my family have done it to ridiculous extents and I can't stand cigarettes. I don't even drink. But I'm not quick to dismiss a person just because they may smoke. I dated a girl who smoked and I didn't mind that she did but I just kindly asked her if she wouldn't do it around me or in my house.
Some people say they taste like an ashtray. However that would really depend on who it was you are asking. I never dated anyone who smoked.
I don't really care too much if guys smoke, but when girls do it, it looks really nasty to me...
If I was with a girl who smokes occasionally at parties or social events, I wouldn't care even slightly. I do the same. If she smokes regularly on her own it would bother me just like an addiction to alcohol or another drug would bother me.
I am lucky enough to have been born in an age of awareness, so my peers who smoke a pack a day know full well the health ramifications, they just lack the foresight to give a fuck. It's rock 'n' roll until your teeth are thin and stained, your face is wrinkled, your hair is thin, you're coughing all the time and, worst case scenario, it's the reason you've got lung cancer, are in hospital, can't take a shit by yourself, get out of breath from walking a few metres, are skeletal and wasting away, are losing out on 20 or so more years you could have had with the people you love. I've watched it happen and it's not a pretty or easy way to go.
I don't want that for me, and I don't want to see any woman I love go through it.
I'm not fond of anyone who has the 'human chimney' habit, friend or not.
I personally don't like women who smoke. Come on your practicing poor hygeine take better care for yourself.
if you don't fuck them so fast they tend not to smoke. nothing worse than a smoking cunt or ass
