Would i still have the red hair gene?

This isn't a typical Is It Normal, but hopefully I can still ask this.

I was naturally born with red/ginger hair, however I couldn't stay outside for long periods of time because my eyes are blue and my skin is horribly pale. Because of this I was told that's why my hair faded to brown (that has a somewhat red shine when in the sun/light) so my question is... even though I have brown hair now do I still have the red hair gene?

In my family I was the first red head in a long time, and our family has us getting gray or silver hairs earlier than normal, yet I've never had that.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Shave your head and that's the gene completely gone.
Duh. Of course you've still got the gene. You have every gene you're born with!

Yes you will still carry the red haired gene.
Genes do not change even if appearances do.

That's why there are recessive genes passed through generations and such because people carry so many gene codes. However we can only display a select few.

Thanks. That's mildly good to know. I never paid attention to genetics when I was in school and searching Google was vague
