Worried about safety of schools

I graduated right before all these school shootings became common (2001). These days it seems almost "normal" for either some kid to randomly shoot up a school or kids to bully each other to suicide. I worry about sending my kids to school because it seems this can happen anywhere. It seems like schools should be hiring security guards and taking precautions but they haven't. This is something little kids shouldn't have to think about but it is a sad possibility.

It's stuff like this that makes me glad that I was home-schooled! Every school needs metal detectors and armed guards. If they don't use guns, they'll use something else. There was a case earlier this year, where a high schooler went on a stabbing rampage with a meat cleaver! Some people say that the answer is to arm teachers with guns. I don't think this is a good idea. Teaching, I hear, can be extremely stressful. What of the teacher snaps and goes on a rampage? What I'd they shoot a student that was getting on there nerves? What if they shoot a student because they don't like them, and claim that it was for another reason? The violence in our culture and our culture's spoiling of children, also needs to be thoroughly looked at. Psychiatric issues need to be dealt with, instead of denying them.

A shooting or stabbing in a school happens about once a week in America. It's been going on a lot longer than 2001. They are usually specific victims and not random shootings so bring your kid up properly and they will probably be fine.

The problem is today we're teaching kids to be wussies and encouraging them to tell on their bullies which only makes it worse. We should be teaching them self defense, how to stand up for themselves and kick some mutha fuckin' ass! I studied martial arts as a teenager and it helped me to feel more confident, less hateful, less violent and more peaceful.

Schools normally have a cop somewhere...I lived in a small town with a very very low crime rate and we had one cop who would just stand in the hall....he was cool.
if you go to schools in bad neighborhoods you will find more security.
Better awareness would help in situations... if you see bullying try to help by speeking up or reporting.

I don't see the fault lying with the schools, but with the parents. It seems these lunatic children just fester unnoticed by their parents, in their bedrooms. It's time parents got back to parenting and stopped the two person income shit or stop having kids they don't have any interest in.
