Wonder what babies think

Is it normal when I come across an animal or a baby I wonder what they think? This includes even a small insect like a cockroach or beatles. Every and all kind. You sort of get an idea with house pets and babies but we can't really know for sure. Yes a mother knows when her baby is hungry and all that good stuff but don't really know if she is happy or upset. Do you know what I mean? Or am I a freak?

    I used to wonder what my dog or chickens were thinking. Sometimes my chickens would talk to each other and I'd observe and wonder what they were saying to each other. I'd sometimes think that they were talking about the eggs they made, food, and their pecking order.
