What about the one created together?

And yeah, I would ditch my last name at the drop of a hat.

No one. What do you need a family for anyways?

My real family is the one I create through blood and/or love.

No I'm keeping my last name. The only way I'd change my name is if he changes his too as in we both pick a name we like to change I don't flow with the misogynistic patriarchal male domination bs.

Well right now I consider the family I grew up with as my family. But when I marry we will make our own family together, I would still consider the family I grew up with, my mom, dad, brother, they would still be my family, that will never change. And yes I would change my last name, unless his last name was really weird.

Uh, I think once you are married or whatever, your family is you, him, and kin.

My mum definitely considers my Dad's family to be hers, but thats probably because she was best friends with his sister before she even met him.

I would think both are your families just two different families. The family you grew up with and the family you started, and really, after getting married, you kind of become one family, his family and yours.

I love my last name too much to consider changing it. I have a very common Welsh last name of which I'm quite fond and I'm proud of my heritage so the most I would consider would be to hyphenate my name but I'm no rush to make mistake number three. Now I figure whether or not I find a significant other is in God's hands and I'm choosing to spend my time alone working on improving myself instead of feeling lonely or sorry for myself.

Maybe you have to be a woman to understand this question, but I sure don't. Surely anyone would consider all those people part of their "real family"?

I am a black sheep, one of few that I know of, on my mother's side of the family. I would like to say that my father's side is my family, but my mother's side of the family kept me from them. So, in a way, they are strangers to me. I don't know if I could consider them family because I've been too ashamed of myself to get in contact with them. However, I won't know unless I try.

You have nothing to be ashamed of, you're a wonderful person. I'm sure they'd love to meet you and get to know you.
