I recently gave a woman a compliment and she completely ignored me, then I decided to leave her an insult and apparently that totally set her off and got her attention. This just verifies that females are subconsciously attracted to jerks.

It depends on the woman of course. Maybe there's more to this? It's difficult to form an opinion or make an real judgments without witnessing the interaction.
But let's say I want you because I think you are hot. I say positive things to you, and you respond positively (which you did). Then, I know you are a good person with social skills.

I'm not interested in jerks to start with so if someone is in my face and I ignore them I won't soften up to them just because they act like a jerk. Depending on my mood I could just completely block the person out or unleash my wrath.
They don't trust, and are afraid to be hurt. The jerk is upfront and seems more honest. The woman may feel if she tries hard enough, she can please the jerk. Maybe he will then treat her as she deserves to be treated.

Perhaps that's what got her attention, but it's a false assumption to think she's more attracted to you for being an asshole. I wouldn't recommend it because I don't think that's what many decent women are attracted to.
