Women, do you need to wear makeup to be taken seriously?

Do young professionals (out of college women looking for career jobs) really need to wear makeup to be taken seriously? I really don't have an interest in make up, I hate having shit on my face, it's so uncomfortable, and I actually am good-looking without it (about 8 out of ten). Probably one of my biggest flaws, though, are deep eye sockets, which are a family trait (no amount of sleep, hydration, or vitamin A cream will make them go away).

I'm just saying, will employers get the idea that a young woman who won't wear makeup is immature? What are other hints to an employer that the interviewee is immature, OTHER THAN poor speech, posture, and inappropriate clothing?

Since when is make-up a necessary accessory in a job?

What the fuck is this world coming into?

Ah, now that's where you're wrong about the prostitute; the only requirement to being a ho is to have genitalia.

Well, true but looking your best certainly helps and makes you more money.

It's a tricky one... unfortunately society leans towards expecting women to wear make-up-but I can't stand wearing more than just mascara... it feels horrible. It does, however, make it look like you made an effort when you apply makeup (but not layers of the stuff) and it also makes you look olderwhich can work in your favour when applying for a job :)

That's a really good question. I'm leaning towards yes...at least for myself. I definitely need something around my eyes or else it's dark red all the way around and I look like I'm 16....I still got asked if I was 17 and allowed to be working today though.
    Anyways, my experience:
I worked at a pharmacy and that particular day, I had no eyeliner or anything on. A customer approaches to the drop off window and when he sees me, he states he needs to hand the prescription to the pharmacist. Apparently I didn't look responsible enough to grab a piece of paper even though I'm the one that types it up and fills the damn thing.

I guess it just depends on how you look without makeup. Some can pull it off but I cannot plus I have an interview in a few weeks for a job that actually goes with my degree and I will definitely be wearing makeup for that.

How come some pharmacists are really cool and some are total hard ass douchbags?

      • I suppose the same reason non-pharmacists can be really cool or total hard ass douchebags?

Honestly some of them just can't handle the stress. I worked with one of each at the old place

I think if anything, they'll think of you as being more mature.

I applaud you though for rockin it without any. Natural is usually better.

    Only ugly women need make-up.

I rarely wear make up. When I do, it isn't to look professional or serious. It is to look dark and sexy, sometimes mischevious.

When the first time I randomly went out without makeup people asked me "how are you?, are you tired?", someone even asked "what's up with your face?". I don't even look bad without makeup.

Probably yes, the more attractive you look will give a better impression. I know it's sadly superficial but that's how it is nowadays...Also it depend on your face structure,i'm 19 and i look like a 15 girl when i have no makeup on. Some women can pull it off tho.

First impressions are everything. You will be judged on your appearance the same as you are judged on your mind.

I wish the answer was no but it's yes. Never go overboard unless you're applying to be a stripper. For an interview always wear make up.

What job are you applying for? Wearing makeup everyday depends on the job.

Yes, I've learned when employers see your wearing make-up they think your more well-groomed for the job than someone who isn't wearing make-up.

All I do is put liquid liner on and mascara and I'm Good to go. I don't put none of that liquid foundation then the powder then the blush...No. I feel I don't need all that. Just keep it simple.

  • I just wear minimal makeup, i.e. foundation, eyeliner, mascara and a bit of blusher or bronzer. A bit of makeup will make you look more polished/professional. Nobody really has perfect skin so the foundation will just even things out.

It depends on the person who is interviewing you. If the person who is interviewing you doesn't judge people by their make up, then it doesn't' matter either way. If the person who is interviewing you DOES judge people by their make up, then not wearing it would not be a good thing. I think woman should wear make up to an interview just in case. But not too much, jut enough to look polished and professional.

I mean it depends on how you look, the goal is to look professional, and if you have veins on your face, you should try to cover them up.
