    Here's how my experience went.

I was in the chair and they gave me the IV drug to put me to sleep. The dentist said "Tell me when you feel loopy." About ten seconds later the room started to spin. I said "I feel loopy!" and I heard him say "Good!"

Next thing I know, I wake up crying hysterically with two dental hygienists over me. I felt no pain, but I was crying because it was a side effect of the drug. I don't remember a thing of the surgery. There was no time in between falling asleep and waking up; it was like time skipped forwards. So don't be scared, it won't hurt :) and afterwards, people will spoil you with soft foods

Your choice. A couple of days of intense pain, or a life of fucked up teeth.

It wasn't a big deal to me.

The only thing that sounds bad (but wasn't a big deal) was that I became partially conscious while they ripped out one of my teeth. It didn't hurt; I just felt the pressure of the tooth coming out. I tried to scream but instead I whined like a dog. Then I blacked out.

The entire week afterwards is a bit of a blur, though I do remember waking up and thinking that the nurses were bitches because they were too busy watching a football game on TV to even ask if I was OK.

Is this the first time you've had a tooth extraction?

It's not that much different, hardly pleasant but excellent anaethesia is used these days and you won't feel any pain until that wears off and even then it'll be manageable with ordinary painkillers.

One tip: don't use alcohol for the pain, it slows down bloodclotting and therefore healing - all those war and cowboy movies where the injured person's friends ply him with alchohol are very misleading, ditto smoking if you have any sort of wound, but particularly in the mouth.
