Why would my brother think it's weird to date his friend

I'm 50 years old and have been talking to my brothers life long friend for 2 years online and on the phone whom I never met. He lives across the country. We have grown close and I was invited to go out and meet him in person. He said he wants to ask my brother if it's ok with him first. We are already crazy about each other. So a conversation comes up where my brother brings him up and where I say that his friend is the only guy I've had interest in for two years. My brother responded.,. Oh that would be weird for me! He goes further to tell me that his astrological sign does not love match with mine and says he's just like him! My brother and I get along great. Lol I didn't say I was ever going to meet him or anything. Why would it be weird for him?

It sounds like your brother is being immature and selfish. Not everything is about him. It sounds like you and his friend are a great pair and should explore the possibilities.

At your age (and his age - assuming you're about the same age)... isn't asking anyone permission to date someone (especially him asking your brother, b/c it's non of your brother's goddamn business)... just a little inappropriate and out-dated?

Seriously, if your brother says "no" to his friend... then doesn't that put your brother in control of your dating life?

IF this guy wants to date you, then he will date you - regardless of what his friend (your brother) says. Date whomever you want. You're 50 years old, so tell your brother take his "comfortableness" and shove it.

Imagine if a friend told you this story.
Would you really tell her not to go after the guy just because her brother thinks it's "weird"?
    Of course not.
You go get that man! You're bro will get over it.

    Is your brother's name Ross?
    Is his friend's name Chandler?

    Monica, is that you?

For God's sake - you're fifty, not fifteen!

Speaking as the elder brother of five sisters, I've never understood why some guys seem to view their sisters as their property. It's not much of a leap to go from American brothers getting all possessive about their sisters to the sick "honor killings" you see in some really screwed up cultures today.

Tell your brother to take his astrology book and stick it where the stars don't shine.
