Why when i write books do i tend to favor the female characters?

I am a straight male and when I write books for myself or other people to read. I often favor the female characters. Either having one of them becoming the main character or just having them be the ones to save the male characters most of the time. I was thinking its probity because I feel the majority of women get the short end of the stick most of the time in life.

  • I have the same problem. Except I'm a straight female and I tend to favor the male characters. The main characters in my stories are usually females and when a male is brought into the picture I am usually more concerned with making him look good over the main character. The female characters in my stories tend to be sort of bitchy or they don't exactly make the best decisions but theguys always seem to be, well perfect. So I'd say that it's perfectly normal.

I do the exact same thing. Although, I'm a gay male so you'd think I favour the male characters but I'm the biggest book nerd and love writing too and my favourite characters are the kickass, cold bad bitches in the stories so yeah, I'd say it's normal

I think this is plenty normal, especially if you're a straight male, because that would mean you are attracted to women, and attraction is not merely limited to romantic involvements. You probably have a desire to give these women something good, sort of a gift, like opening the door for someone. These women are also likely the perfect women for you to favor, too, since you want your audience to like the character, so you give them a personality that is attractive to you.

I have the exact same thing in writing; I'm trying to write a movie now and am having a tough time making anything bad happen to the female characters. Some people call me sexist for this, but for the most part, I think it's just a desire to be kind.

  • You are right, sort of, but I hope your books are better than your post.
