Why people do the things they do...

I think that MOST of the reasons that people do so many "strange" or "bizarre" things is because society views them as taboo, naughty, and they try to control people into saying that they CAN'T do these things. Be it incestual thoughts or behaviors, strange sexual or social thoughts or behaviors. Society CREATES such strange thoughts and behaviors in humans by attempting to control what we do, what we think or how we feel and interpret things.

This is the reason that VERY few people in other countries who don't share these same cultural controls don't have these thoughts or ideas. So in reality, it is COMPLETELY normal to go against the "norms" of society and to have thoughts or fantasies of something that is "naughty", "taboo" or "not allowed". So the next time you think about asking if something is "normal" or not think about what I have said here. Perhaps what you may be asking about is not considered normal, but it IS normal for you to want to experience what is not "allowed" by society. Hope this helps some :)

Gosh! I could not have said it better. I'm a Sociology major and I'm currently enrolled in a Sociology of Sex Behavior class and we talk about norms and values all the time, but seriously, who made these things up? I don't remember having some conference where we sat there and laid it all out, so forget about those who form these 'ideals' to control people. With all the cultural variations in the world, the word 'normal' demolishes. You're right about how one thing that is completely normal in one culture might be completely taboo in another, so technically, every human thought, desire, or behavior is, or at least should be, normal.

It is, and sadly this "free world" we live in known as the United States isn't really free at all, mere wool pulled over our eyes to make us feel like we actually have anything "free". We are controlled by fear, if you have a small penis the girl won't fuck you, if you have small tits the guy won't fuck you...if you have acne...nobody will fuck you haha. Keep the people in a constant state of fear and they will continue to consume and obey...those are the rules of our society, whether or not people acknowledge it.

It is soooooo true. If something is forbidden you will think 'why' and therefore want to experiment it.

Most of a society's behaviour is usually done around the rules. The more taboos, the more you think about it so the more rebels.

That's nonsense. You are basically saying the existence of rules encourages who gains pleasure from breaking them to do so.
And that's completely moronic.Since most of the people who find themselves doing "bizzarre weird things"often don't have any intention to break any rule or taboo. Yours,is just another narrow minded view. The lioness doesn't like the new pack leader to kill her offspring so she gets in heat again and he can get to knock her up.But the lion doesn't do that just because he likes acting against the lioness wishes. He does it because he is still mad towards the previous pack leader, who just got beaten or possibly killed, and can still smell him in the puppies. So as far as I'm concerned, your theory about weirdos being weird just because they like misbehaving and being weird, doesn't make sense at all. Also because to most of them their weirdness is a source of suffering. Because of... the pack leader, perhaps.

Our society is way too puritanical.

I agree with much of what you say but, being from Kentucky, incest STILL remains outside of my definition of polite society.

I think you give much credit to 'society' when 'society' contains the vagaries of good and ill.

There is right and wrong in EVERY situation.

Free will is the shit, whether you believe it bestowed by an old, white-maned, berobed 'god' or 'gods'.

We choose. It's a beautiful thing that sometimes goes awry. But we choose to have it go awry.

Ahhh, but the two-sided coin to that I'm not sure if you are aware of or not but Incest has taken place in the Bible, I mean if we all indeed did originally come from Adam and Eve...who did their children Kane and Able have children with? Marrying cousins has been around for thousands of years in MANY cultures...not to say that I am into incest but the point is that it has taken place throughout history and only in recent times has it really considered to be anything "bad" or "abnormal" even to think about, let alone to actually commit.
