Why is there a comment limit on this site for new users?
I'm simply answering questions by people and trying to help out. Yet, I get blocked after answering around 40 by being told I've reached my limit. Is It Normal for this site?

Because some fuckhead troll ruined it for everyone a little over a year ago and this was solution themanagement came up with. It doesnt affect me personally, but I think it's unfair to new users who come here to be good.
^what she said.
It doesn't affect me either since I joined before the rule was implemented, but I also don't think it's fair. I think it is discouraging for those new people who join the site who want to comment a lot because they've found something great here and want to be a part of things by helping people. Why should we restrict all newcomers just because one bad new user was such a pain in the ass? That logic just doesn't make sense to me. It is oppressive.
Yup. I reckon it'll successfully screen out a whole bunch of people eho may have helped drag this place out of the shitter.
To be fair, though, 40 is pretty high. I've heard people limited after less than 10.
I meant compared to what other new users have told me.
That being said, I cant imagine having that many things i wanted to comment on in one day.
Many people go through a sort of mini obsession period when they join here. Then it turns into unhealthy dependency.
You've been warned :p
Is it 40 per day for each poster? I feel like I post a lot and I haven't run into that problem yet.
40! If you ask me that's a pretty fair limit for a new user's first day at any forum.
40 a day? That's a lot. I've had this account for 5 months and I only have about 450 comments. That's an average of three comments a day.
Hmmm . . . Quality not quantity :)
Quality does not mean that it must be too few. You can make plenty of quality answers.
That's subjective anyway.
Sure. There are plenty--honestly, less than a handful-- of users that have thousands of comments who also consistently churn out quality content.
Anyway, of my 450ish comments, I would bet that only about two-thirds of it is at or above mid-range level of quality. Maybe half. . . . perhaps a quarter? Fine! A tenth.
