Why is obsessive love only weird if you're not obsessively loved back?

Why is being obsessively in love with someone considered cute/lovely when they love you back and weird/stalkerish when they don't?

I mean, if they don't love you, how can you help it? How can this arbitrary fact beyond your control make you either normal or a social reject? If you are already not loved by the one you love, then isn't that hurtful enough, without everyone thinking you're a weirdo, too?

If we were going to be fair about it, shouldn't loving someone obsessively be weird irrespective of whether they love you back obsessively?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Because if you truly cared about them you would respect that they don’t love you back not be obsessed, and what’s the point of loving someone who doesn’t give a shite about you? What do you get out of it?

That's when it kinda turns from obsession to stalking. That's when it turns illegal.

Great question! Probably because of the dynamic between mutual and unshared feelings. If two people want to have a baby then GREAT! if only one does, WEIRD!

I couldn't be truly in love with somebody who doesn't love me back, cause that would fizzle the love on my end out. So with those people who seriously love someone, but then they don't respect the other person's wishes if they say they don't love em back, and they still stay madly in love anyway, that's when it turns creepy. The creepiness comes when one refuses to respect the other one's wishes.
