Why is it taboo for men to display their thighs and bulge?

From being made fun of for wearing briefs as underwear and speedos as swimwear, it seems like in the past couple of decades, men can't get away for this type of exposure. I agree that though that women often cannot get away with showing their breasts, but what has made the upper thigh and groin region (even if covered) laughable or even shameful?

Because people are silly and immature. Wear what makes you feel comfortable, and don't listen to them. I hate board shorts, they stay wet forever, they are heavy, and they drip down my leg like crazy. They are not even swimwear, they are just shorts. Many people love them though, and that's cool, they can wear what they want too. Your not making fun of them for their choices, maybe you could ask they show you the same respect.

Maybe it's because curves are considered feminine.

Great question. As far as briefs, I like boxer briefs because they're more comfortable. But when wearing a swimsuit, I'm usually doing some sort of activity, like water skiing, and the long swim trunks in style now get in the way, catch water and don't keep the boys out of the way. Women show the perfect outline of their boobs and crotch bump, so don't know why a guy couldn't show a bulge.

no one wants to see hairy thighs and legs and dicks look gross whereas cameltoe is beautiful.

  • It's not taboo in Australia. It's normal to wear speedos here. It's only Americans that seem to be hung up about it although the they don't seem to have a problem with scantily clad women. Poor them with their prudish puritanical ways.

Short-shorts on men, is considered a sign of gayness/ an unfashionable "dork".

When I was young, my camp group would go to pool. We loved to check of this swimmer who looked like a beautiful Grecian God. He always wore a speedo and we could admire his bulge. It was acceptable because he was young and attractive. However, whenever we saw an unattractive old man wearing a speedo it was gross and unacceptable. We could be a mean and shallow bunch. I'm ashamed of how I used to be!

Does age and looks still come into account or are speedos in general considered to be a big no-no for anyone?

I've never been a fan of the, "you need a perfect body to wear a speedo" argument. Does the Grecian God guy look better in it than the old fat guy? Hell yes! But that would be true no matter what bathing suit they choose.

Unlike women, who can choose a 1 piece, a mans torso is exposed regardless of their choice of shorts or speedos. If a man has an ugly body, it will look just as ugly in shorts as it will in a speedo.

But that doesn't stop fat girls from wearing two piece swimsuits, which can be just as nauseating as seeing old, fat guys in speedos
