Why is eating cow or chicken different to eating a dog - iin?

I think it's really interesting that many people (except vegans/vegetarians of course) don't have any problem with the idea of eating meat from our cute and cuddly animal friends like chickens, cows, pigs or sheep.

But the moment someone mentions eating meat from an animal like a DOG, people LOSE their collective minds and start cursing, swearing and wishing destruction on the person that dared to even mention it.

It's as if you've suggested to them eating a human being (TBH I like eating pussy but that's another story)

But why is that?

What's the difference between eating meat from a pig, a cow or a sheep? Aren't these animals cute and cuddly like dogs and have just as much right to live without being cut into pieces and BBQ'd?

Why do people get so crazy at the idea of eating a dog?

(NOTE: I don't actually agree with the idea of eating a dog, I'm just interested why people go so crazy whenever someone mentions it. Some countries like China IT"S NORMAL to eat dogs and they even have dog eating festivals.)

They're hypocrites - because they eat meat from other 'cute' animals 14
They haven't really thought it through 8
Because dogs are 'man's best friend' 15
They like their pets too much 6
They're just stupid assholes 5
They like eating hot dogs but cant face eating real hot dogs 8

It's all about culture and the fact that dogs have a higher intelligence than the ones you mentioned (except pigs). Dogs have a good personality and are useful in other ways. Plus you can train a dog. A pig may be smarter than a dog but it won't fetch. Plus dog meat is not as tasty.

It's not, really. It has to do with culture and whatnot. Some animals that we eat are considered sacred in other parts of the world whereas more of the western world keep dogs as pets, not a food source.

If I was hungry enough a dog or house cat would be a welcome meal.

Dogs were domesticated to be helpers, worker, and companions. The others were domesticated as a source of food, clothing, and football coverings.

No different, meat is meat and if something went down my neighbors dog would be on my table before sun down.

Already got it planned out, fire pit used to get rid on bones, head and other scraps, then thighs on the grill. When the thighs are about 90% done I start layering on the BBQ sauce. Get some corn on the cob and make some slaw, grab a beer and chow down.

Maybe I should start feeding it garlic now so it will taste even better!

        Sure

Plenty of dogs in my neighborhood, most are lazy and fat so the meat should be tender and juicy

I'm a dog owner so I wouldn't dream of eating dog but if I was teetering on the edge of starving to death I may have second thoughts.

People are okay with torturing certain animals to death and eating their flesh. because certain types of meat apparently taste good and others dont. i havent had real meat in a long time so i dont remember.

To some people it is and to some its not. I wouldn't eat my own pet anything( chickens, cows sheep etc). I do eat meat but not lamb or veal. I wouldn't eat anything that I've had as a pet like rabbit. I agree that its not ideal to eat animals but I don't do well vegetarian so I try to buy free range and grass fed beef.

just like how some countries worship cows or eat cats, we eat cows and keep dogs/cats as pets because of the culture we are raised in.

i don't see why you would be confused on something like this, it's like going up to an indian man and asking why he worships cows and doesn't eat them. it's all about different cultures.

tbh i wouldn't mind trying out dog or cat meat, though the taste probably wouldn't be as good as a cow since dog/cats are primarily carnivores and meat eaters aren't suppose to be eaten.

I don't have any objection to eating dog meat. I have an objection to something I read before, stating that they abuse the dog first to release more adrenaline so that the meat will taste better. There's clear abuse to livestock animals, too, but that's mainly what I'm opposed to. Some might say that killing them is automatically abusing them, but there's a difference between death and torture.

    • I agree. I think that the Chinese in particular are extremely cruel to dogs. They seem to take delight in making the animals suffer as much as possible before killing them.

At the same time years ago, growing up in Australia, I had friends who worked in a slaughterhouse where some of the workers also took great delight in making animals suffer by all sorts of creatively cruel means (example: sticking water hoses up the sheeps anus and turning the water on until the poor animal exploded). Cruel mongrels.

That sucks. I'll eat meat but I try to buy free range eggs chickens and grass fed beef.
People who do sick stuff like that are psychopaths and the world would be better if they were put down.

  • I put up a nice troll post last week about traveling to a Chinese Dog Eating Festival to try dog meat.

Wow, a couple of comments people were wishing dogs would rip my throat out and they wished I was dead and all kinds of crazy stuff. Rabid and extreme.

I could almost bet my granma they ate meat from other animals tho.
