Why i hate touching anything...iin?

A lot of people are extremely afraid of germs, and a lot of the rest of the people are afraid of germs on a healthy level.

I have NO fear of germs (in fact, I love them!!), but I hate touching things in public because of microscopic physical body 'particles' people leave behind. Even though I can't see it with my naked eye, it seems enormous to me and is very bothersome. I hate to think I am coming in contact with anyone's skin cells, sweat, poop particles, anything! I put my sleeves over my hands when I push a shopping cart! I refuse to take products from the front row of the shelf, I dig towards the back so I can get a package that likely hasn't been touched in a long time. I really need to just buy a box of rubber gloves.

It's only people too, animals fur, shit, piss or anything else doesn't bother me in the least.

Blood from anyone or anything doesn't bother me either.

IIN? Also what would you think of a person wearing rubber gloves in public?

It's obsessive-compulsive disorder. Talk to your doctor about it. Good luck!

Ehh, you probably shouldn't be making a diagnosis based on this post. It SOUNDS like OCD, but there are other disorders that involve paranoia and obsessions.

You're totally right that the OP should see a doctor, though.

  • People underestimate the power of a single thought.

It starts out with "Ew germs are everywhere" and then that thought blossoms into a network of phobias that cripple you over time.

It's not normal. You came into this through a single thought and you'll come out of it that way.

That doesn't happen just from that single thought, though. There have to be other things going on, whether it's a traumatic experience or a chemical predisposition to phobias and obsessions.

I think more people should wear gloves in public, just not rubber ones.

  • This reminded me of that episode of Recess when Gus goes all crazy about germs.

      • Damn right it was. May sound childish, but I want to watch it again. Might find a way to get them and watch them soon.

Best moment of the show is when TJ blows off the rest of the gang to go that dest student-secutary guy's birthday because he was his childhood friend and promised he would go to his birthday all the time.
The birthday boy is dressed as a sherrif, and everybody is confused as to why TJ blew them off for that kid (one of the dorks), and while they are saying "Oh my God, I can't believe he blew us off for _____", Mikey just says "I can't believe ______'s a sherrif". Everybody just stops and stares at him. Lol. One of the best childhood cartoons.

The people around me who wear rubber gloves in public are usually petty criminals who are forced to pick up trash as punishment.

Sound like yu have OCD, I'm afraid. I've been there. I'm still apprehensive about touching certain things in public but the difference is I now think more rationally about it and I'm not as scared as I was. The fact is, some people aren't very hygenic - they may cough carelessly or not wash their hands much - it's not nice. But most people are hygenic and won't go spreading germs as much as you think they will. I think you're in a bit of an irrational place right now so it will be hard for you to believe this, but most germs/viruses don't last for very long on cold, hard surfaces. I really think you should take some time to think about your thought patterns about germs and please talk about it with someone you trust or with a counsellor if possible. A tip - carry round anti-bacterial hand gel with you (or wipes) as they can lessen your anxiety and be there if you feel you need them. You could try touching a few things in public then using some gel BUT leave it at least a minute until you use any gel. It's a test for yourself. Be firm but fair with yourself.

    70 percent normal?

This is not normal. I'm not judging, but it's far from normal.

I think buying rubber gloves might be a good idea - you might get some funny looks, but hopefully it will reduce your level of stress and anxiety.

I think it would be a bit strange to see someone wearing rubber gloves in public, but then again, I've seen stranger things.

Over the course of your life you will inhale 1/3 of your body weight in other peoples skin flakes.
