Why does one person whos the same age as you think they're older

alright so this starts out when I'm talking to this girl. Back when it happened I was 19 and she was barely a year older than me one day we're talking like normal and she just tells me how it's weird it is to hear young people talk these days and refers to me about how I talk to her. I just dismiss the comment and proceed on as if everything is usual. Now my question, is it normal to have wanted to smack this person upside the head and tell them to get real because we're almost the same F***ing age. Bear in mind this was after she sent a very umm, scandalous picture of herself to me and if that's synonymous with being older than I guess I am younger.

  • People are weird!

That happens to me too, but mostly with people I've just met because they're making a judgment based on appearances and I look significantly younger than my age. It happens all the time at university with my classmates, but it only bugs me when my sister-in-law does it ...or the cashier who cards me at the beer store.

This type of thing has happened to me all my life, because I have always looked significantly younger than I am. In fact, I was last carded at 49 years of age while I was buying wine coolers, along with the rest of my groceries, under the full fluorescent lighting of the grocery store!

I didn't really like looking so young when I was younger, because it isn't so pleasant to be thought of as 10 or 12 when you're 23 (true story, by the way). And when you're tending your toddler, and some old woman turns to you and asks, "And who's baby is this?" - and when you answer that he's yours, she says, "Oh, I see," and visibly sticks her nose up in the air as she turns away from you and your precious, innocent, loving little child - it's absolutely infuriating! You seriously want to slap people for their obvious assumptions sometimes! But when you're approaching your 50th birthday, and get carded for buying wine coolers at the grocery store - it almost makes up for the crap you went through when you were younger - almost.

So, maybe this girl was presenting herself as so much older as a way of compensating for having been treated as if she were so much younger all of her life? Just throwing it out there...
