Why do we push buttons harder?

So, for example when we are trying to turn the channel over on the T.V and the remote doesn't seem to work first time, Why do we then push the button harder? it makes no difference how hard we push the button!

I find myself doing this all the time, so why do we do it?

It sure works for me. They wear down and the buttons don't respond as well, it doesn't take long at all really, I am guessing the circuit board gives a bit. I've had a few remotes that you had to twist like an Indian burn and then they'd work. My '3' button currently doesn't work unless I ram that fucker down and my recall button is also worn down and has to be treated with a bit more force to work.

My TV on/off button will instead of turning off actually turn the volume down if you don't push it hard enough.

I have to ram my key in my door in order for it to work.

Sorry but it seems like force is the answer to everything.

Painting with a roller. It works better if you're gentle. :P

Because humans are essentially analogue creatures living in a digital age. Very few of our natural interactions with the world are yes/no but instead "how much force?"

Sometimes after a while the oils from the skin pile up in the button's electric contacts making them not respond without enough pressure, but if you press strongly enough you get them to work. The best solution is opening the remote and cleaning the electric contacts on the inside part of the buttons with alcohol. The difference in response is quite noticeable.

Buttons are fuckin lazy. They just sit there doing nothing all day so I figure if I push it real hard it will motivate it to push itself.

Because the button was too stiff.

I've had remotes that would only work if you pushed the button really hard. It's because the wiring gets loose inside? I don't really know how it works, but that's my guess.
