Why do stores never change the music that plays in the background ?

I work in a grocery store and they never change the music. It is the same group of songs.Same playlist repeated over and over and over, day by day to day by day everyday. It is maddeningly monotanous.

I try to tell myself i'm lucky to have a job but it doesnt really work because i'm still going nuts inside at the same time i try to be positive.I feel like my brain is rotting and i'm dying of misery and boredrom and aggravation too.

Customers are bad enough and so is the work but the horribly boring music played everyday which never ever changes just makes things that much worse. It accentuates/enhances the misery.I wish the manager wasnt so droidlike and became eclectic with music like i am. They should'nt dwell on the same ole same ole like they do.It feels like doing this approach chops ones IQ in half, especially when you're stuck working in there 6-8 hours day in and day out.

  • It reminds me of what happened with a friend of mine. Last year we drove across the country. We switched on the driving . . . every half mile. We had one CD to listen to on the entire trip . . . I don't remember what it was.

Probably because they either don't care, or because they have to pay for the music they're playing.

I used to work in a bingo hall and I heard the same music every shift for a year and a half. The reasoning was to pick something neutral (and boring) so it didn't offend anyone or even really get noticed. Given that many of our customers attended more shifts than I did, and were also sick of the music, they should have just turned it off. My life, in particular my working life, doesn't need a theme tune.

Why don't you listen to your iPod or mp3 with the music that you like and with only one ear bud so you can hear with one ear

  • It's a cd that will be kept playing until they decide to change it. In the store I used to work it was the same crap they try to call ''music'' Sucks to say but you'll probably have to endure it until you leave that job.
