Why do some get better, while others get bitter

Life is hard; we all know that. But why is it some chose to be bitter, but then others get better.

Is it because the people who got better had more support? Were they raised with better morals?

Or are people who get bitter after hardships just losers?

Not sure the age of the OP but it is like this -
After years of dealing with bullshit, some people just get bitter.

I think those who get better are the ones who have always had it easier than normal.

Reasons for bitterness (I am in that category) are things like failed relationships/marriage, working hard only to have very little come of it, working some shit job that anyone could do...

Life is mostly drudgery. Some of us tend to look at it as "making it through the day/season/year/life".

I am not sure, but I can't assume getting better is because of support. I think it has to do with what people have in them. Very hard to say. I have never lived in a shit world, so I am not bitter.

My childhood was rough and probably should've destroyed me...it definitely DID affect me and held me back in some ways...but even as a small child, I had this inner voice telling me I could rise above this. I believed that one day I'd prove my parents wrong (they'd put me down constantly, in the worst ways) and I'd have a good life and accomplish things. I didn't have much support but I have smarts. I can figure shit out. I'm not easily discouraged. I'm really good at finding a way to get where I want. I'll research the hell out of anything, I'll read laws, policies, rules, methods, whatever I need to do to at least try to get what I want. I'm not afraid to ask for things or to challenge anything (well, sometimes it's inappropriate or not worth it,and that's something I learned!).

I'm not saying I'm special, nor have I accomplished anything spectacular...and it has been a slow road...but at this point, I've got a 16 year marriage, own a great home free and clear, no more debt, started a full time business last year that has so far been a success, among other things. I feel great about my life, honestly. I've experienced a lot, crazy stuff really, been in lots of low places but I'm grateful for all of it and where it has taken me and I like where I'm at and wherever I may go, I hope to have plenty of time left to enjoy!

I guess what I'm saying is, for me I think it was some kind of innate sense or feeling of worth plus being intelligent/curious enough to find solutions. Support wasn't really a factor.

Bitter pessimistim is just lowering your standards so you don’t get disappointed over and over again. It’s just a coping mechanism.

Some people are rock, some are wood, and some are glass. IE some are unaffected, some get dented, and some get completely shattered by shit that life hits them with. I have absolutely no idea why this is so, but I have also wondered this a lot myself. I don't think people can help it, they're just born that way. I don't think nuture/ bad luck can be to blame because there are plenty of people who bounce back from horrendous things and go on to have good lives, and there are plenty who have it relatively easy and still shatter over something quite small.

I think I'm wood, my husband is rock and my brother is glass. No logical explanation as to why, it just seems to be so.

Says the person who gets shitty and bitter any time anyone comments on their post with anything but 100% agreement.

    • Who do you think I am? I don’t believe you’re thinking of the right person. I normally don’t respond to my posts, so you’re not thinking of the right person. Maybe my typing format and my topic are similar to who you are thinking of?

You write in sentences, my bad. I'm sorry I jumped the gun and accused you.

There's this user who posts faux philosophical bs, usually along the lines of everyone needs to acknowledge that the world is against you and no one cares and you NEED to accept that no one will ever care about you. And for a minute your post looked like that. I guess the bit about bitterness. I should have paid more attention.

        • I think I know who you are talking.

I guess my question is similar to their’s, but the topic has been on my mind and I decided to ask here.

Similar, but without the negativity. I shouldn't have brought it in, and I apologise again.

Ive seen enough siblings turn out worlds apart that I cant blame your home life.
    I think its something inside.
    Something youre born with.
But yes, how you are treated or encouraged does matter.
Im just saying, people are different.
Shit happens, then its a personal choice how you process it.
What you do with failures or put downs.
Do you see it as the truth, youre a loser.
Or as a challenge to prove you are not.
Is it a set back to overcome.
    Or the way life is?

    Hmm? *Scratches chin*
Got me thinking why do some people worship pineapple pizza and why do some puke their guts out from the smell of it. Lol
Maybe pineapple pizza haters are just pussies! (Sarcasm)

Hm maybe people are different and experience different things? Wait no that can't be right. Everyone's the same because that the homo-sapien way! You know like reacting the same to shit, liking the same shit, eating exactly the same shit.

    Do I get a golden star? :3

My man, Wiley E Coyote, should be bitter about roadrunners by now. But, he just keeps on trying. Here's a salute from the Bean man. 👍
