Why do ppl get triggered by guns?

Ever notice that? The mention of guns around some people always becomes an argument. If I'm on discord and a guy comes in the chat that likes guns and we talk about optics we have on our rifles and some one will always come in and say "why do you need that? Do you know how many school shootings there are!?".

Maybe its just my upbringing but it comes off as very weird to me that people care.

People tend to see them only as a weapon. Instead of a tool, hobby, or a collectors item.

Even as a weapon, they still have their uses in the hands of a law-abiding civilian.

theres always the option of not engagin with random strangers about known controversial issues

or ridiculously use their own argument against em and tangle em up 'youre just usin my guns to compensate for your cavernous vagina'

or that failin you can just shoot em

But that's like saying all gay people are flamboyant. That's true but only regarding the ones drawing your attention because they're flamboyant. Whereas your run-of-the-mill, average, everyday gay person doesn't get noticed.

I have never ever touched a gun in my whole life and I am 33!
But it's probably because I do not live in a country where you can easily buy a gun.

And I like it that way.

If we did not have guns in America, we would be on lockdown every other month like the UK.

People get like this about almost everything these days. I think constant internet access has polarised people's views on a lot of things.

People emphasize statistically meaningless tragedies. It's emotion more than anything, the fear that something could happen that almost certainly won't.

It goes both ways. People are passionate and leave little room for the opinions of others.

I was on some forum called similar worlds.
They are more tame than here, kind of hard going from a place like this, where it is pretty crude, to a place like that which is more tame.

The skin here is at least thicker and people do not get upset as easy.

Not sure how to answer. Are you asking if your opinion is normal or theirs?
I think some people have an irrational fear of guns because their only knowledge and contact is with the news media which hypes and sensationalizes shootings for the sake of viewership and ratings.

How petty of them to argue.

I own guns, but I do find obsessing over them to be a bit pointless. Sure, I like the design of my Browning rifle and shooting a few rounds at a shooting range was fun. Disassembling, cleaning and reassembling it was also fun, cause you get to see the clever engineering that goes into making a gun.

But owning proper military stuff like assault rifles, .50 cals, etc is completely pointless. Sure, it's great fun to go through a magazine on full auto in an AR15, M16, or shoot a Barrett M82, but why would you ever need to own such a thing?

Before you call me a hypocrite, cause I'll happily drone on about cars, cars are practical things you can use and enjoy daily.
Tell me one instance in NORMAL daily life, where you'd need an assault rifle?!
Tell me one instance, where you'd even need a shotgun??? A pistol is more than adequate for protection.

And more Americans need to realize that guns are not a joke! If you take one out, you better be ready to pull the trigger and! They are not tools you use to settle a family argument, confront the idiot that cut you off, or threaten an ex, or do any other stupid shit. You see it all the time on American news... Someone shot their ex/ family member/ friend, shot themselves in the foot, while scratching their junk with a gun, or similar idiocies.
Guns are weapons used for defense, in the army, or for hunting.

I may have a weird view of American ideals, but I feel that the intention of the Second Amendment was to have it so that people can own military-grade weapons for an inevitable rebellion. The government was made by insurgents, for insurgents, with the intention of being as free as possible and easily overthrown in an inevitable insurgence. That is why an American would need such weaponry: because America was intentionally designed to be overthrown in a coup. If the people don't have this weaponry, the intentional design choices for the purposes of an easy overthrow set forth in the Constitution and Bill of Rights would never come to fruition, allowing the government to become a horrific tyrannical mess.

I respect your opinion. Thanks for clarifying the position. I dont feel that there is a great chance I will need them. But if I do I will have them and they will give me alot of satisfaction to customize them and shoot them
