I don't troll here, but I've done my fair share elsewhere. Mostly it's a combination of boredom, attention seeking, and just a desire for a good ol' laugh at someone else's expense.
I've always found it to be somewhat of a fascinating experiment in how people respond over light petty annoyances. Oftentimes I'll troll in a very un-disruptive way and someone will still get up in arms just because they are offended by the mere fact that a troll is present.
We troll because we can.
Its a practical joke.
A troll is the same as someone who puts clingfilms over the toilet seat.
Only we hide in the internet.
It'd be weird if a guy brought his daughter into the change room and you were naked and rubbing one out, or squatting and taking a shit in the middle of the floor, about a foot away from the drain so the poo juices begin running across the floor over to it. At that point one of the daughters runs across and slips on the poo juice and hits the wall, at which point the father runs to help, but you pounce on the situation and throw your shit at him, splattering it on his face... Then while he's blinded to kick his kid in the back and smash a chair over his chest... That wouldn't be normal, don't even think of doing that.
Watching people get worked up as they cry tears of feces and mercy, makes me holler!!
almost everything i do on this site(except for my profile) is complete bullshit, i just love to fuck with people and i'm apparently very good at it:) anybody else?
I do it for fun and when I'm bored.
Sometimes I troll and I don't even know it.
But guess what? I never troll. Oh no. Trolling is against God's will.
When I do it, I do it because it is funny to see some people post essays to tell someone off when really, if I'm so unworthy and not worth your time, why are you the one sitting there typing an essay to me? Taking the internet way too fuckin seriously.
When you have such a low ego that you need to empower yourself at someone that you believe is inferior to you, well... trolling is a fine social experiment indeed.
To watch people get way over-excited about a big fat nothing and make fools of themselves. Troll fodder, innit?
I know trolls always get the "you've nothing better to do thing, etc, etc...." but in another way the same thing could be said of ANYONE who spends ages on the net typing answers (even helpful ones) to complete strangers, no?
I watched something where they said trolls may have some kind of mental issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLHABlp8Ntg
Because they don't take the internet so seriously.
Not because: "Mostly because they're sad and bored and have no other way to feel better about themselves. "
And not because: "Because they are pathetic or insecure and have nothing better to do than to make others feel like shit. "
People troll because they just feel like it.
You appear to be thinking at a lower level than some. You quote Avant-Garde, who may be right or may be wrong but at least offered a relevant theory, yet you have an explanation that is pointless. Just because they feel like it? I think most people got that, and assumed the question was "Why do they feel like it?"
God forbid you're ever a criminal psychologist. When asked why someone was stabbed, you're liable to answer "because the criminal wanted the knife in the victim. They just felt like it. It just happened. Nobody is to blame".
My anwser to the poll is anyways: Because they don't take the internet so seriously.
Although you are correct, I wasn't really giving a good anwser as to 'why' people do it, Their anwsers were pretty horrible aswell.
They simply just said "They are scum"
Which is a horrible anwser.
Avant-Garde's anwser was written in such at way that would makes you believe that he/she thinks it's universal.
Notfloydzie atleast wrote "Mostly".
So I do believe that I deserve those thumbs downs.
I should have spent more thought on it.
Thank you for knocking some sense into me.
You're absolutely right. I was equivocal about Avant-Garde's answer because it did seem to put everyone in the same boat. I sense you got a bit sarcastic towards the end of your reply, and there's absolutely no reason to, although I admit I wasn't friendly in my reply to you (sorry). I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong here. But I am curious. Do you think people's interaction should be affected by the mode of interaction? For instance, the rules are different on the internet as opposed to telephone or real-life exchange.
The incest/bestiality/women farting posts are all for attention. They get off on people telling them they're disgusting and have issues. Just ignore these sickos, or you are just encouraging them to be sickos.
here is what i picked. attention
well if im a troll trolls Believe in long true story's
It's quite entertaining. Not every troll is hateful - though I have been down that path before and I did it because I thought it was hilarious (granted, I was quite young at the time).
Everyone who answered that its because of them being unhappy or lonely or sad and pathetic or whatever other nonsensical bullshit are just people who got trolled at one point or another and are still mad and bitter about it happening to them. Trolling in its purest form is an art, and is completely transcendental in its role as thee social experiment of social experiments and that cant be defined by a generic definition. It takes years of practice and training to master trolling.
Those of us that pray at the alter of Troll will always have a place on the Internet. We are the Yin to your Yang of anti-troll sentiment. We are the equation balancing itself out. We are waiting, always faithful.....
I can understand why people think that it's mean... but if you're good at it then it is addicting.
Because seeing people get genuinly pissed off at nothing can be funny to watch.
That's actually a lie. Most people THINK that, but in reality people do it for fun. Trolling is an art. It's like a game of chess and various puzzles: you have to play your cards right, all for a battle of epic lulz and wins.
Your statement wasn't true at all.
Because they are unhappy and unfortunately it is human nature to spread the unhappiness around.
