Why do people think im mad all the time??

I have worked at four different restaurants as a waitress, and I do fairly well with customers or at least I feel like I do. I'm a nice person, and I'm not mean to anyone. I have been a bit shy my whole life, but I feel that I have overcome it, and I can pretty much start a conversation with anyone. For some reason though everywhere I have worked my boss has approached me at some point and told me "I look scared of people" or "I don't smile enough" but I dont feel scared of people and I really do make an effort to smile even when Im in a bad mood. Could my face just look angry all the time? Is that possible? Does anyone else feel like people always get the wrong impression just based on appearance?

I have the same problem! Everyone always thinks I am mad about something or really annoyed or like really rude. But I guess it's the faces that I make without realizing it.

it is just because the world has gotten use to so many fake people who pretend to like everyone that if your not fake or a good actor you look like an angry bitch i get it too fake it till you make it the motto of this century

honestly dnt take it personally ppl often get the wrong impression because they dnt know u well enough and its annoying because u thought u were being nice so then u feel like u have to put on this extremely fake happy exterior just to keep them happy. but u know wot, just do it. even if u feel ppl can see through it just be really overly nice and u should get a better reception, and then u will genuinely feel happy.

i kind of know how you feel, i used to be shy and not talk to people, and as a result people though i was stuck-up. i wasn't a snob, i was just shy and didn't have anything to say!

  • Yes - I have found that people occasionally misread my face, which with age sags a bit more I suppose.

I imagine in your line of work bosses expect you to present as bright as a button & chirpy as a spring morning on each & every encounter - all day.

Waitressing is hard work. Your bosses are just pushing for more and that you are probably already doing a good job. Tell them if they REALLY want to see you smile to give you a raise!
