Why do people like pokemon?

Why do grown up people like a dumb kids cartoon? What is the obsession with this shit? Can someone please explain it to me. I know the yellow pika thing is cute, but your not 9 anymore! The theme song i like too and that's the best part.

There's nothing wrong with liking pokemon as people are free to like whatever they like. They should never be judged for it. It's a fun and interesting series of games. I played up to the Unova region of games (the games being Black and White). I'm not that interested into the series or card game though. I'm 21 but I believe that I'll always like and play pokemon.

Regarding electric rodents, Raichu's better in my opinion. I actually find pikachu to be terribly overrated (seriously. That yellow rat gets way too much love and attention). In the games, it's a alright electric type but they ruined it in the show.

One last thing: you don't grow old because you turn a year older every year. You grow old when you stop having fun and playing games like pokemon.

    I love pokemon.
I no longer collect and play the card games ...I no longer buy the little toys for myself, my daughter likes them...and if I do watch an episode from the show its with my daughter.
what I love are the games...I collect them i have one color from each set starting with red. and i love playing them ...i like trsining and getting the bages...i like hunting for shinies...I like the side games in the game. I enjoy the nostalgia of it all.

and for your information "kids" cartoons arnt dumb. Most adults enjoy cartoons...my mom loves bugs bunny. I also enjoy adventure time and many others. i think you will find adult humor in the cartoons you dontpick up when you are a kid.

  • I don't play it anymore. I stopped playing it when I was in highschool but I would still pickup the old ones to play them, they were fun as fuck. The newest ones seem way too childish, though. So, in my opinion, it's because the games are fun but I personally can't see me enjoying the newest ones but I am sure that to this day I would enjoy playing the originals.

To be honest, I didn't really like when we were kids either. I only played it because it was popular at the time and everyone else was playing Pokémon so if I didn't I'd be left out on the playground. I never liked that character Ash. He always annoyed me.

I have never enjoyed Pokemon. I just think it's so repetitive and boring series.

I have no idea. The same with anime and Japanophiles in general mystify me.
Their ancient culture was certainly interesting, but modern Japan has so little that is unique or original, I can't see the fascination.

I liked collecting the cards when I was 10. It's fun having pretty looking illustrated collectibles with different imaginary characters. Never knew you could use the cards to play a game until way too late.

Also couldn't afford a Gameboy when I was younger so never played the video game.

Anyway, I moved on. The card packs were a lot of my pocket money and I got over the novelty fairly quickly. I also thought the cartoon sucked balls and had the shittest animation on TV - though for some reason I still watched it every Saturday morning.

As for adults liking it, a lot of adults get into things originally designed for children. Maybe they find it nostalgic, an enjoyable hobby, or maybe they are emotionally child-like :P Nothing wrong with it I suppose.

    I... got over it.

My cousin just got into Pokémon, though... And that's ALL she could talk about. Luckily, I saved her from the newer ones and had her start off with the older version. And... Ironic how the say "Gotta catch 'em all", but Ash just catches them multiple times in the Pokédex...

I don't know why grown ups like current Pokemon, but I like the original series (generation 1 and 2) mostly for nostalgia reasons, and that it's just lovely and adorable. The cartoon is only one part of Pokemon, which I think it was pretty well written for a kids show. when I've went back as an adult to watch some of the episodes I appreciated even more the sentiments - last episode I watched was when ash revives his charizard and it actually made me cry... But then I'm not exactly a model of maturity... As for the games, I have nice memories of play Pokemon stadium with my cousins, and as a kid I had played Pokemon silver for at least 10000 hours according to its time counter...
Anyway, It's really no different than people who love Star Wars/star trek or something like that, I think... Or even Mario, Zelda, or any other Nintendo game...
