Why do parents wear nice clothes while their children are in rags

It drives me crazy when I see parents all done up, nails done, hair cut nice, nice new shoes and clothes and their kids are wearing pants with holes dirty shoes just looking shaggy. Why would anyone not put their children first? I believe that after you have children they become first for everything if there is one hot dog left then they get it. I see it everyday at my kids school, kids not wearing coats, pants dont fit, and the parents are wearing brand new everything. Is it normal that I get upset about this or am I just over-reacting

I wouldn't know. Most of the parents I see give their children nicer clothes than they dress themselves. I think those types you mentioned are self-absorbed and lack empathy. Parents who neglect their children so blatantly should be publicly shamed.

  • I more often see it the other way around.

Your overacting! The parents, some of them at least, have to report for work somewhere. The idea that a kid should get the best is putting them at a great disadvantage for later in life. Let them earn the privilege of nice things by doing their part of being the best they can be in their job. (Which is school) After that, the parents can determine based upon their capability just what the kid needs are.

Ripped jeans and faded t-shirts are (believe it or not) quite fashionable nowadays. The kid's "rags" probably cost a good deal more than their parent's "clothes".

Hard to say this but this is style now for kids. But the hotdog thing, in my family whoever got done first got the last burger, hotdog, pickle, ext. Which, is me!

Until they reach a certain age kids don't care about their appearance anywhere near as much as adults do.
