Why do my feet need to be raised when i go to the washroom?

Is it normal to habitually need to have your feet to be on a raised surface when you go to do number 2 (BM, defecate) in the washroom?
When I go to do number 2, I always need to have a feet on something about the size of a regular tissue box. If I don't, I often find myself sitting in a way in which I am perched on the balls of my feet.

It's better to squat while having a bm, that's why it feels more comfortable to have your legs to your knees.

  • Wow, I never thought I'd share this one with anyone- my own boyfriend doesn't even know, and we've been living together for almost two years! Lol, I must admit, I have a stool that I keep in the r.r. for that sole purpose. Whenever I'm somewhere else, I put the trashcans on their side or find SOMETHING I can prop my feet up on, lol! It's sad but true- helps with less strain and as long as everything comes out all right- (pun intended), there should be no need to worry... I say IIN :)

I think it's normal. I actually heard that if you have your feet on something (i.e. footstool) while having a BM then it prevents straining and is in a more natural position. Straining can cause issues such as increased IOP (intraocular pressure), increased ICP (intracranial pressure), rapid blood pressure drop, and of course, hemorrhoids.
