Why do i not have any friends

I'm 45 years old and dont have any friends. I work full time and work for another 9 hours a week tutoring. I have 3 kids 2 dogs 2 cats and a husband who thinks im stupid and a pain.
I dont know how to get along with people and never know what to talk about - Im a pretty boring person really. I never go out socially - not to eat or anything else. I have the odd takeaway meal with my girls but that's about it. What should I do. I know its not normal and it makes me unhappy - but I dont know what to do to change this. Any suggestions

    So you work more than 6 days a week, manage a household of children & pets, have an insulting & unsupportive husband - and wonder why you have no time to make friends, feel blue and like life is all drudgery? That's cause it is.

    Take this to personal counseling because you are really getting short changed - by yourself & family. That may broaden to marital.

    Setting some new life goals for yourself and following through will matter - but start with the counseling for an unbiased opinion and support.

    facebook is the reason i dont talk to anyone anymore, it becomes a nightmare moderating what might as well be loads of answerphone messages.
    Since then ive not had any notions that I want long term friends. Im 28 and dont mind doing things by myself but sometimes I miss going out for beers, playing football or whatever. Im just taking it as it comes, im not too bothered about anything anymore.

    I think you over analysed it, like when you said don't know what to say, you don't plan a conversation, they just happen.and if you run out of things to say it means you don't have much in common and they are probably more boring than you ever thought you was!

    I know you are about 51 now (not older, just better!) And I will be your friend if your still looking... lots of women have male friends now, nothing wrong in that!
    But I must warn you, I won't be responsible for your actions hehe.

    Can you afford to take any classes, perhaps at a community center? You could meet people that way, and you could take stress-relieving classes like yoga, painting, etc.

    i agree with the two comments above me:/

    You work and do all the house stuff, basically you have all the responsibility and you have your house who nags you all the time.

    Use facebook to connect with old friends you had and forgotten, from school, college etc.

    What are your hubbies? X factor? movies? celebrities? Use the internet to search for these things and join forums and communicate with others.

    You penpal to find friends.

    If you haven't already, you should consider joining Facebook and reconnect with friends from school.

      Thanks for that idea - but I already have facebook. the problems is I didnt really have many friends at school either - and when I go on facebook I never really know what to say to people, so I do the quizzes etc but dont really do the chatting bit - except to my girls who are also chatting on facebook in the same house. - Reading this back all sounds a bit sad really - but I guess thats how it is.

        I'm in agreement, counseling is your best bet, take your husband with you, you're obviously not stupid, and although you might be a pain, he doesn't know how to deal with that and its not fair for you to assume he knows how you feel. Marriage counseling sounds best to me - at least to start.
